How to create a metallic waterline

It’s time to give that ’90s makeup classic, the black waterline look, a shimmering update. Andrew Gallimore, UK makeup ambassador for NARS, explains how it’s done

LENGTHEN THE LINE

“Use a shimmering, soft pencil along the waterline right inside the lashes – I used NARS Velvet Shadow Stick in Hollywoodland here. Make sure you take the color from the inner to the very outer corner, then take it back a little into the waterline on the upper eyelid – this lengthens the eye and gives it an almond shape.”

LAYER UP THE SHIMMER

“Using a metallic eyeshadow powder like NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Isolde on top of the liner intensifies the result and lasts better than a kohl liner. The creamy pencil also helps to grab and hold the shadow in place. Don’t worry if it gets into the lash roots – it all adds to the jewel-like effect.”

THE FINAL TOUCH

“Always do the waterline first and then finish with a mid-tone eyeshadow blended above and below the lashes. These metallic shades of khaki suit most skin tones and really brighten the eyes and make them glisten.”
