If you follow JULIE SERGENT FERRERI on Instagram, chances are your recent saves are full of her gorgeous knitwear posts. Here, the architect-turned-influencer reveals why she loves a colorful knit for winter, plus her tips on how to style sweaters, turtlenecks and cardigans for this season and beyond
“Knitwear is the comfiest winter attire, isn’t it?” says Julie Sergent Ferreri when asked what it is that she loves about the sweaters and cardigans she has been posting so much of since the first leaves dropped in fall. When stocking up on the chic knits in her existing collection, spread between her two bases of Paris and Ajaccio, Sergent Ferreri has been trying to resist the allure of buying even more bold colors: “Many of my latest additions have been in neutral tones to balance how many bright clothes already occupy a significant amount of space in my closet,” she reveals, adding that she will choose between a bold or beige knit depending on how she is feeling. “My outfit choices often reflect my mood. For example, I adore a color-block ensemble if I’m in the right frame of mind. I showcased some vivid looks during last winter’s Copenhagen Fashion Week, and the experience was incredibly enjoyable.”
“Colors are timeless to me – I can’t think of any that feel outdated, whether it’s the classic allure of navy blue or the bold statement of neon. Every shade can elevate an outfit

Inspired by her ultimate muse, Princess Diana, and how her iconic statement sweaters still make fashion headlines today, Sergent Ferreri has been showing more than 675,000 admiring followers how – with the right styling – knits can work everywhere from snowy chalets to the South of France. It’s the diversity of knitwear – with its various shapes, shades and patterns – that really appeals, along with how each design allows you to play with volume. “I absolutely love oversized sweaters, especially paired with baggy jeans for a laid-back yet stylish vibe,” she says, noting that one of her tried-and-tested influencer hacks is to buy an XL to achieve a nonchalant slouch and comfortably oversized look.
This season, Sergent Ferreri has three knitwear staples that she is planning to wear on repeat: “A cardigan, because it always feels effortlessly wearable yet slightly more sophisticated than other knits; a red knit, because it is the color of the season; and a beige turtleneck, because it’s the perfect go-to with blue jeans when in doubt,” she says. Offering some insight into her NET-A-PORTER Wish List, it appears an iconic Khaite cardigan, plus a piece (or two) from Gigi Hadid’s buzzy knitwear brand, Guest In Residence, have already made the cut. Embrace color in winter
“Vibrant colors not only align with my style, but also help to combat the winter dullness in my complexion. It’s like a boost that adds both warmth and trendiness to my winter wardrobe. Colors are timeless to me – I can’t think of any that feel outdated, whether it’s the classic allure of navy blue or the bold statement of neon. Every shade can elevate an outfit.”
Don’t be afraid to play favorites
“To me, red and green have their unique appeal. Red is especially on-trend this winter, so it will add a vibrant and fashionable touch to my looks. Meanwhile, green holds a special place in my heart because it is my all-time-favorite color. It complements my eyes and provides a timeless, nature-inspired aesthetic.”
Pair red with gray
“I have a soft spot for the combination of red and gray – it’s a blend of boldness and subtlety that I find captivating. To elevate the two, I often incorporate gold jewelry, which adds a sense of chic, classic elegance to the overall ensemble. I also adore accessorizing with a statement piece, such as a brooch or a bold earring. It adds a touch of glamour.”
Team neutrals with denim
“While I steer clear of wearing black jeans with colorful knits, I find the combination delightful with neutrals. Loose curls are my hairstyle go-to with this pairing, although a messy bun always works beautifully with a cozy turtleneck. For makeup, brown lips are usually my choice. They perfectly capture the fall vibe that I adore, and they complement the warmth of knits.”
Play with textures
“Knitwear pairs seamlessly with satin to create a luxurious, textured ensemble. For a stylish contrast, I often opt for a long ivory satin skirt with an oversized, colorful knit. The combination of a fluffy knit and smooth satin adds depth and visual interest. To complete the look, I would go for slingback kitten heels – not just for the added sophistication, but also for a leg-lengthening effect.”
Style according to the season
“For a cool day in Paris, I would layer a shirt under a knit, allowing the collar to peek out. Then I would add a skirt, high socks and knee boots. In spring, I love sporting a classic Breton knit with bare legs and brown moccasins.”
Invest in quality and a care routine
“Quality is paramount for me; long-lasting knitwear is inherently sustainable. Opting for durable pieces and caring for them with gentle washing and proper storage maintains the integrity of the fibers and ensures your knits won’t end up as short-lived fashion. Cashmere is my top choice for its luxurious softness, but I also appreciate the timeless appeal of 100% wool. Mindful consumption is important – less, but better.”
