Color pop

Opting for a punchy pink lipstick has long been the norm when choosing a brighter makeup look, but, these days, colorful liner is the new trend for wearing vivid hues. The simplest route is to use a crayon gel liner close to the lash line. That said, a liquid liner or eyeshadow with an angled brush can be just as effective, depending on the finish you want. In terms of colors, all shades on the spectrum have seen a resurgence, so play with neons or pastel hues according to your preference.

Pastels and lighter shades work well as a crayon liner because the creamy formula gives a thicker, more impactful color pay-off when you’re using shades that are sometimes more subtle on skin. For neons and deeper, more vibrant colors, a liquid liner will leave a sharp finish, while shadows create a diffused look. As for lashes, black mascara lends a very precise runway edge, and lashings of brown mascara will give a more laid-back feel.

Chic shimmer

Glitter isn’t just for festivals and festivities – the re-emergence of Y2K trends, as well as shows such as Euphoria, have made glitter, metallics and shimmer the headliners of the summer-makeup trends. As an entry point, nude hues edged with shimmer are a quick way to add sparkle. But, for something more daring, chunkier glitter dabbed on the center of the lid and blended out creates a wide-eyed look – just make sure you prep with a shadow primer to guarantee minimal fallout. Alternatively, go full Y2K with an icy-blue or lilac-tinged shimmer all over the lid.

Summer smoke

Deeper hues such as black and navy blues often form the base of a smoky eye, but, for summer, it can be switched out for something less heavy. Think longer days and shorter nights. “I would use our Eye Pods in Les Nuits for another take on the smoky eye,” says Gucci Westman, founder of Westman Atelier. “Start by using Vin Rouge [the deep-red shade] to add some depth. Then, twirl your brush to pick up color and sweep it across the lid and under the bottom lashes. This shade is extremely flattering, so super-complementary with most eye colors.” If you have a deeper skin tone, you might want to use a deep brown to intensify the color around the eye socket: “For instance, I would finish off with a pop of the Champagne shade to the corners of the eyes,” concludes Westman.
