The Oscars 2025: Best Dressed
Undoubtedly the biggest night of the awards-season calendar, the Oscars 2025 brought together Hollywood’s most well-known names for an evening of statuettes, speeches and all-out glamour
What Happened At The Oscars 2025?
The headline winner from the 97th Academy Awards was Anora, which took home five wins from its six nominations, including the biggest prize of the night, Best Picture. The film, about a Brooklyn sex worker who marries a Russian oligarch, also saw its lead, newcomer Mikey Madison receive Best Actress (while the frontrunner in the category through this awards season has been Demi Moore for The Substance). She told the audience it was a “very surreal” moment, and paid tribute to the sex-worker community: “I will continue to support and be an ally.” And its creator, Sean Baker, a first-time Oscar nominee, triumphed in the Best Director category, giving an impassioned speech about the importance of cinema. “In a time in which our world can feel very divided, this is more important than ever. It’s a communal experience you simply don’t get at home.”
Best Actor went to Adrien Brody for the historical postwar epic The Brutalist and Kieran Culkin took Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain. Zoe Saldaña received Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez, which has been marred with controversy through awards season. Saldaña dedicated the award to her grandmother, saying, “I am a proud child of immigrant parents, with dreams and dignity and hard-working hands and I am the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, and I know I will not be the last.”
The proceedings were overseen by host Conan O’Brien, who kicked the ceremony off by appearing to emerge from Demi Moore’s spine, in a reference to the gory, body-horror The Substance. Musical moments came from Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and a James Bond medley performed by Doja Cat, Lisa and Raye – accompanied by a dance performance by Margaret Qualley.
There were serious moments, too, including the Best Documentary win for No Other Land, a film from an Israel-Palestine collective with an acceptance speech made by its co-directors, Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham. There were emotional in memoriam tributes, for stars such as Gene Hackman, Maggie Smith, David Lynch and Quincy Jones. And the ceremony began with an ode to Los Angeles, following the recent devastating wildfires and, later, a standing ovation was given to members of the fire service as they took to the stage.
Zoe Saldaña
Emilia Pérez and former PORTER cover star Zoe Saldaña accepted the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress wearing a custom Saint Laurent gown, crafted from burgundy satin with a crystal-embellished mesh bodice and a tiered puffball skirt. Saldaña’s stylist, Petra Flannery, finished the look with sheer over-the-elbow gloves and a Cartier necklace.
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez turned heads in a stunning off-the-shoulder Ralph Lauren gown dripping in 16,000 glass crystals, which she complemented with diamond Bvlgari jewels that picked up the rose gold tones of her dress. Working with her long-time stylist Erin Walsh, the actor channeled a modern-day ’50s bombshell with a waved bob and cat-eye flick.
Mikey Madison
Mikey Madison and stylist Jamie Mizrahi looked to Christian Dior for a gown worthy of the Anora star’s nomination – and subsequent win – for Best Actress. Inspired by a style from the 1956 Spring Summer Haute Couture collection, the strapless pink satin and black velvet design was detailed with a sweet bow and an elegant train. An exquisite teardrop diamond necklace by Tiffany & Co and soft makeup rounded off the timeless ensemble beautifully. Last week, we named Madison one of our 25 Incredible Women of 2025.
Cynthia Erivo
Known for her fearless style choices, Best Actress nominee Cynthia Erivo stole the show in a stunning custom look by Louis Vuitton, designed in collaboration with in-demand stylist Jason Bolden. With a face-framing pointed collar, striking bow-detailed bodice and full skirt, the dramatic emerald-green velvet creation paid homage to Erivo’s leading role in Wicked, as well as Hattie McDaniel – the first Black actor to win an Academy Award in 1940. The ensemble was complete with statement gold nails by Clawz By Dior and glittering diamond jewelry.
Demi Moore
The Hollywood icon Demi Moore arrived wearing a statuesque custom gown by Armani Privè. Orchestrated by her longtime stylist Brad Goreski, the sleek, figure-hugging design was covered in glittering silver sequins – no doubt a nod to her Oscar-nominated performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance – and beautifully draped at the hips before falling to an elegant fishtail hem. Moore finished her look with signature long waves and eye-catching jewels by Chopard.
Ariana Grande
First-time Supporting Actress nominee Ariana Grande graced the red carpet in a custom pink gown by Schiaparelli Haute Couture, complete with a sculptural peplum and glittering tulle skirt that felt like a suitably magical nod to her performance as Glinda in Wicked. Styled by Mimi Cuttrell, Grande complemented the sweetheart neckline with a dainty diamond necklace by De Beers and an immaculate ballerina-style updo.
Elle Fanning
Former PORTER cover star Elle Fanning was the picture of Old Hollywood elegance in a custom white lace gown by Givenchy Haute Couture, designed by new creative director Sarah Burton and inspired by an archival look from 1952. Detailed with a flowing Watteau back and black grosgrain bow, her classic look was complemented with mesmerizing Cartier jewels and a perfect cat-eye flick
Coralie Fargeat
Coralie Fargeat celebrated her nomination for Best Director wearing a glamorous Versace gown from the brand’s archive, styled by Rose Forde. Coated in scores of shimmering jet-black sequins with a sweetheart neckline and a nipped-in waist, the ensemble was accented with a statement fringed diamond necklace and glossy point-toe heels.
Isabella Rossellini
Nominated for her performance in Conclave, Isabella Rossellini walked the red carpet wearing a flowing crushed blue velvet gown by Dolce & Gabbana that paid touching tribute to late director David Lynch. Rossellini complemented the navy tones of her dress with matching heels, a diamond-encrusted sapphire necklace by Bvlgari and earrings that belonged to her mother, Ingrid Bergman.
Emma Stone
Last year’s Best Actress winner Emma Stone returned to the Oscars red carpet wearing a figure-skimming Louis Vuitton dress coated in light-catching mirrored paillettes, which she let shine with delicate diamond earrings and a cocktail ring. The minimal look was finished with a ’20s-inspired pixie cut and a pretty rose-tinted lip.
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh embodied timeless elegance in a strapless gown from Balenciaga’s 52nd Haute Couture collection, remade by the maison in electric-blue with a flattering gathered waist and dramatic train. The former Oscar winner adorned her flawless red-carpet look with icy diamond jewels by Boucheron and a pair of pointy ‘Knife’ pumps.
