Peony Lim’s AM/PM Routine
British editor and jewelry expert PEONY LIM on the best cleansers for sensitive skin, her new nighttime skincare discovery, and her top tip for total relaxation
IN THE MORNING
I’m not a morning person at all…
…every day is a struggle! But I have one of those Lumee light alarms and that makes a big difference. I also find a morning workout is a good way to get your blood pumping; I have a trainer who comes to the house a few days a week and we’ll do a mix of Pilates and HIIT.
I’m quite picky about cleansers…
…as my skin is pretty sensitive. I really like the foaming cleansers from La Mer and Dr Sebagh; I find that neither of those are super fragranced or stripping. If I’ve had a late night, I tend to do a bit more of a facial massage while cleansing, and I might do a bit of ice therapy as that helps to bring down any puffiness.
If I’m in a rush…
…I’ll always go for a tinted moisturizer, like By Terry’s CC Cream, as they require less blending. Then I’ll use the Tom Ford concealing pen, which has a lot of coverage but blends out really well. I also really love the Hourglass cream bronzer, which I apply with the La Mer powder makeup brush, then I’ll add a bit of Christian Louboutin’s volumizing mascara.
I try not to skip breakfast…
…as I prefer to have a big morning meal and then a small dinner. Often, I’ll have avocado or one of the healthy peanut butters on gluten-free toast; other days, I’ll have porridge topped with fruit and cacao nibs. If I’ve done a workout, then I’ll also have a smoothie – usually with banana, almond milk and WelleCo chocolate protein, which has lots of probiotics and vitamins.
IN THE EVENING
I’m a big believer in a bath for relaxation…
I’ve been using the same Eve Lom cleanser since I was 16…
…I’m obsessed with it. It’s great for getting off waterproof mascara and it doesn’t sting at all. I also find it super neutralizing – if I put something on my skin and feel it starting to react, I’ll use this cleanser and it soothes it completely.
I’ve recently fallen in love with…
… the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair ampoules. Each pod contains the perfect amount of serum. I really enjoy the ritual of putting that on and I feel like my skin is really getting what it needs. I’ll layer that under either the 111 Skin moisturizer or La Mer’s Soft Cream, or if my skin’s feeling extra dry, then I’ll use an overnight mask.
On my nightstand…
…I usually have a lip balm, which I have to put on before bed. I’m also a fan of overnight lip treatments and masks. And in my room, I have a little humidifier with essential oils that’s nice and soothing, but it’s also great for your skin and hair, particularly with central heating in the winter.
