Shop modern ’80s with a fashion editor

The PORTER fashion editors each have their own personal style. Some love bold and bright colors, others prefer to keep their palette on the dark side. Then there are those who indulge in graphic prints and others who pick florals time and time again. Each fortnight, get to know the team’s tastes and style tips as they reveal what’s on their wish list this season and how they’ll be wearing their favorite pieces. This week, Global Editorial Fashion Director GABRIELE HACKWORTHY shares her most wanted pieces of the season

STYLE RÉSUME

My look in three words… Less is more

My style muse is… Charlotte Rampling for her sense of subtle seduction and having a timeless sense of style, and Betty Catroux for her complete devotion to wearing Saint Laurent menswear

My repeat-buy item is… A little black dress

The item I can’t live without is… Jeans

My favorite piece in my closet is… A black leather Balenciaga Perfecto jacket, which I throw over everything from evening dresses to T-shirts

My secret style tip is… Desk-to-dance-floor shoes – the easiest way to transform a day look to night is with a pair of statement high heels

If I could only wear one designer it would be… Saint Laurent

You will never catch me wearing… Sequins during the day

My wish list

“I don’t like anything that is too ladylike or middle-of-the-road with fashion; style to me is about having a point of view and not being swayed by trends. I’m very black and white about most things, including the way I dress. I wear variations of the same thing and love androgyny mixed with classic femme fatale pieces to give a subversive edge. I’m particularly fond of the high-voltage glamour era; think Saint Laurent in the late ’80s and style icons like Paloma Picasso and Tina Chow.”

I’ll wear very classic pieces together with something more avant-garde.
Sheer black hosiery, mini skirts, big shoulders and statement earrings are my new wardrobe staples.
Black is my uniform, but when I do wear color, I love vermillion red, fuchsia pink and emerald green tones.
