Negin Mirsalehi’s AM/PM routine

The Amsterdam-based beauty guru and founder of Gisou haircare reveals her daily health and wellness rituals

Beauty

IN THE MORNING

I have to have a good breakfast…

…I make oatmeal and add healthy toppings such as goji berries, nuts, seeds and fresh fruit. On hotter days I’ll have an acai or smoothie bowl – I like to make them myself by using frozen bananas, avocado, dates and oat milk. If I’m in LA, I’ll visit my favorite breakfast spot, Backyard Bowls. I also take a vitamin B12 supplement with my breakfast or I’ll take propolis [a compound produced by bees, thought to fight infection] from my father’s bee garden if I feel run down.

My favorite beauty ingredients come from bees…

…the Mirsalehi bee garden has been in my family for six generations. It’s where I harvest the main ingredients, honey and propolis, for my Gisou haircare line. My mom is the only person I allow to cut and color my hair and I use my signature Honey Infused Hair Oil every day to keep it looking healthy, shiny and smooth. It’s the one product I take everywhere.

I’m always flying for work…

…and struggle to fight dehydration, so I start my morning with a tall glass of water before my skincare routine. After using a cleansing oil, I choose my moisturizer depending on where I am in the world – in hot places I go for a light-textured cream, and in colder temperatures I’ll use something thicker, but they’ll always have a high SPF, no matter which country I’m in. I love SK-II and Avene products.

My everyday makeup…

…starts with Paula’s Choice foundation to cover my dark spots and then Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation for the rest of my face. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is great for covering imperfections and eye bags, and I just love Charlotte Tilbury’s highlighters. My eye and lip makeup look changes, but one thing I make sure to do every day is to use a lash-enhancing serum.

IN THE EVENING

I like to treat myself to a spa…

…the best one I’ve ever been to is Dior Institut at the Plaza Athénée in Paris – it’s unrivaled. I also love The Beverly Hills Hotel Spa, and whenever I’m in LA I try to see Dr. Sheila Nazarian in Beverly Hills for a facial. Even though I love my natural freckles, they are a sign of sun damage, so I’m doing PicoFocus laser treatment to help reduce the hyper-pigmentation.

I can always count on my dog to keep me energized…

…Mosey [an Australian Labradoodle] is still quite young and loves to play, and I’ll take him for a walk along the Amstel river by my house [in Amsterdam] when I feel tired. I also try to workout at home every day, but it depends on my schedule; I do a mixture of cardio, yoga and boxing. I try to be healthy most of the time but I don’t deprive myself – I often order a salad with a side of French fries.

Traveling takes a toll on my skin…

…so I have a full in-flight ritual. Pre-flight, I use a rich cream such as Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre and I fly with no makeup on. Throughout the flight, I run Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil Luxe Travel Size through my hair to prevent moisture loss, and apply Avene Cold Cream Lip Balm. For long-haul flights, I wear a sheet mask such as the SK-II Facial Treatment Masks or the Charlotte Tilbury Multi-Miracle Glow, because it’s such a great multipurpose product. Recently, I’ve started to use compression socks to increase circulation and prevent any swelling in my legs.

And relax…

…I have such a busy schedule that I have to find time to wind down. When my schedule allows, I love chilling out with Maurits and Mosey by watching a movie on the couch or taking a bath with a hydrating face mask and hair mask. I usually add Epsom salts to my bath or lavender-scented bath oil – the smell is soothing and helps me sleep better.
