IN THE MORNING
I don’t cover my skin with too much makeup
I had to do my own makeup for my PORTER shoot in May, as it was during lockdown. I applied a thin layer of a lightweight base over my face and dabbed a small amount of concealer under my eyes, on top of my eyelids and around my nose. I used a tiny amount of translucent powder over my T-zone to reduce shine but, mostly, it was my husband’s [photographer Benny Horne] great lighting that made my skin look good.
I like to highlight my features but keep the look natural
For my PORTER shoot, for example, I brushed my eyebrows up with a clear brow gel and buffed Marc Jacobs Beauty O!mega Bronze Coconut Perfect Tan in Tantalize under my cheekbones, over the bridge of my nose and down onto my neck with a Burberry Beauty Powder Brush. I added more bronze with a matte tone on my cheekbones and dabbed a small amount of cream blush onto the apples of my cheeks. I like to blend the same bronzer onto my eyelids, right in the middle, in the space between my iris and the arch of my brow; it’s very subtle. In general, I’m not into foundation because I find it just sets into my fine lines.
I love adding more freckles
I prep my skin with Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream and then use a soft brown brow pencil to dot in tons of freckles on my cheeks and over my nose. I have some natural freckles but I’m always happy to add more. I leave my lashes bare but I give them a lift with an eyelash curler.
I have never dyed my hair…
…which is why it’s in a pretty good condition. I’m very lucky that legendary hairstylist Garren has been cutting my hair for 15 years now. He likes to put in a lot of layers, which help to give my hair texture. I wash it every morning, alternating between R+Co Television Perfect Hair Shampoo and one I buy from German pharmacies that doesn’t contain silicones, fragrance or parabens. Then I just apply a fragrance-free conditioner to the ends.
My trick for effortless volume and texture is…
…when I get out of the shower, I brush my hair then bunch it up and massage it, so that it gets some movement. Then I just let it air-dry. I find massaging my hair like this will give it a slightly wavy texture. I never use a hairdryer because I find that it makes my hair flat – but I will use one with a round brush on my bangs to put a little heat on it and give it a bit of lift.
IN THE EVENING
I’m careful about what I use on my skin because I have rosacea
I developed it after I had my daughter. Anything that helps my rosacea helps me to feel good about my skin. I try to mostly use products that are free from fragrance and parabens to avoid aggravating my skin even more. I took some tests a few years ago and it turns out I am allergic to fragrance, so it’s something I definitely avoid.
My super-sensitive skin loves Dr. Barbara Sturm
I’ve only started using her products recently, but already my sensitive skin is so much better. It’s the first time in my life that I’m really investing in proper skincare, and I now use Dr. Barbara Sturm products all the time.
The evening is all about skin
The first thing I do is start to remove my makeup from the day with a micellar water cleanser. My next step is to wash my face with a gentle cleansing mousse to make sure my skin is clean and all my makeup is gone. I use a prescription antibiotic cream every night to help with my rosacea and then, to finish everything off, I apply Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream Light before going to bed.
My skin is on a strict routine
I use a peeling toner every second day to keep my skin smooth and exfoliated, and a few times a week I layer in Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Ampoules. About once a month, I’ll treat my skin to an SK-II Brightening Source Derm Revival Mask.
