Beauty

IN THE MORNING

My morning routine is extensive…

…I’ll use a lotion or toner with a cotton pad and follow with some hyaluronic acid serum and SPF, like Zelens Daily Defense. My makeup consists of a lightweight foundation, concealer (Nars Radiant Creamy is a favorite of mine), cream blush (I love Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks) and cream highlighter (Surratt Beauty Torche Lumière is brilliant), a warm brown eyeshadow, with a touch of light on the inner corners (try RMS Beauty MultEyetasker), a little mascara and something to define my brows. Oh, and lip balm, of course. All day every day! I love La Mer and By Terry Baume de Rose. I feel so awake after applying a bit of makeup, even if I’m tired – it’s as if I’m tricking my brain into thinking everything is OK!

I’ll always skip a face wash in the morning…

…Ever since I went for a facial with French skincare guru Joëlle Ciocco, I’ve avoided doing a face wash in the morning. She told me that, if you clean your face thoroughly in the evening, just splashing some water and using a lotion to cleanse in the morning is more than enough – and more gentle on the skin. I’ve been following her advice for over a year now and feel that my skin is more balanced, less dry and not as sensitive as it used to be.

I’m not super hungry in the morning…

…so, unless I have a breakfast meeting, I’ll only drink tea until lunchtime – turmeric tea when I wake up, then green tea a bit later on. I don’t like coffee, so green tea is my caffeine replacement – I’m obsessed and drink it all day long. One supplement I really love is The Beauty Chef Hydration Inner Beauty Boost – it’s particularly good for hangover days. My dream diet would be sushi and pasta, but I also try to include grilled chicken, quinoa and some vegetables to be good.

I love reformer Pilates…

…and Heartcore Pilates in London is my absolute favorite. It strengthens and tones and helps with posture, which is essential for me. I also love playing squash. My husband has been trying to convince me to do Barry's Bootcamp – so maybe that’s something I’ll consider trying.

When I land in São Paulo…

… I always go straight to my facialist, Bete – she's the absolute best for extractions. Then I go to Renata França for a Miracle Touch session; it's a power lymphatic drainage treatment that really helps with bloating and liquid retention. I also love going to Dominique Maison de Beauté, for a Joëlle Ciocco face massage, or to Kennzur Spa for the dreamiest of massages. Going to the hair salon is, of course, a big thing in Brazil too – and Marcos Proença has been doing my hair for over 10 years. He’s the only person I'll allow to trim my hair.

IN THE EVENING

Most nights, I’ll have an event to go to…

…so I’ll always add intensity to my makeup. I tend to touch up my foundation, add more blush and highlighter and add something to my eyes – maybe a cream eyeshadow, such as Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon. I’m also obsessed with Pat McGrath’s Labs Mothership palette.

I always do a three-step cleansing regime before bed…

…which involves removing makeup, washing my face and using a toner. Then I’ll apply a serum or acid, eye cream and a generous layer of lip balm. It doesn’t matter how late it is, or how tired I am, taking care of my skin has been a non-negotiable night-time regime ever since I was very young.

I’m a real night owl…

…so it is hard for me to go to bed early. I try to avoid my phone and read instead. I also swear by This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, which makes me wake up feeling so refreshed. It really does seem to improve the quality of my sleep.

Once a week, I have a ‘real beauty’ moment…

…This usually takes place on Saturday or Sunday, when I tend to have more time. I call it my Dia de Beauté moment, which means ‘beauty day’ – and this is what I called my blog almost 12 years ago, because a self-care aspect has always been so important for me. I’ll do everything that my skin needs: dry-brushing, scrubbing, peel pads, masks, targeted body products for legs, arms, hands, feet, cuticles… you name it, I’ll treat it. I always light a scented candle (Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia is a current favorite), listen to a relaxing playlist and take the time to try different products. This once-a-week ritual is my meditation.

On my bedside table…

…you’ll find This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, Frédéric Malle Dans Mon Lit linen spray, Aesop Resurrection Aromatique hand balm, Bepanthen (an ointment for babies that works wonders as a night-time lip balm) and a pile of magazines.
