How To Get Victoria Beckham’s Polished Makeup Look – In Just 5 Minutes
Glowing skin, velvety lashes, defined cheekbones and a perfectly subtle lip – we can’t get enough of the naturally polished makeup look perfected by Victoria Beckham. Here, her makeup artist, FRANCESCA ABRAHAMOVITCH, tells MALENA HARBERS how to effortlessly recreate the radiant look in no time at all
Get your skin prep right
“Having well-hydrated skin is so important for makeup application,” says Abrahamovitch. “If you’re in a rush and don’t have time for a pamper, get a bowl of water and ice and put your face in it a couple of times to wake up the skin and get the blood flowing. It helps reduce puffiness and tightens the skin instantly. Then use massage movements to apply your moisturizer, so you’re waking up the face and increasing blood flow while hydrating and prepping skin. I would avoid anything too oily, as you don’t want your makeup to slide off.”
Focus on the eyes first
“Good lashes are an easy but powerful way to make you look polished quickly, so I would always focus first on the eyes,” advises Abrahamovitch. “Start by etching a line of Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Satin Kajal liner in Cocoa [a rich matte brown] or Black on the lash line and, using a brush, gently buff in for a defined but soft look. The Satin Kajal liners are universally loved because they make application so easy. The formula glides on beautifully like no other, and the color pay-off is incredible – they instantly elevate your makeup look with minimal effort. After your liner, curl your lashes and apply two coats of Vast Lash mascara to open up the eyes.”
Spot-apply foundation
“The best tip I can pass on to make skin look seamless is to avoid product overload. Apply thin, light layers of foundation, but only on the areas that need it – this keeps the rest of the skin looking fresh and natural, while still concealing any areas of concern,” says Abrahamovitch. What you use to apply it matters, too. “I always apply foundation with a damp Beauty Blender sponge to really push the product into the skin, so it looks natural and doesn’t just sit on top of the skin. Fingers are also great for gently patting on concealer, as the warmth of your skin helps the formula to melt in. Finally, don’t over-powder – allow natural radiance to shine through by dusting powder only on the areas that need it.”
Address dark circles
That crepiness that can crop up a few hours after you’ve applied undereye concealer can really tarnish a polished makeup look. “The best way to avoid this is to make sure the eye area is really hydrated before you apply makeup,” says Abrahamovitch. “Don’t use anything too heavy or matte under the eyes, either. Instead, apply thin, light layers of a hydrating concealer, and, if needed, apply a small amount of color corrector under the concealer to neutralize dark circles so you need less concealer to brighten the area. Finally, when setting this area, use a very fine, light powder and gently press this under the eyes. Avoid applying too much, as this will make the area look dry and crepey.”
Stick to cream color formulas
“Adding contour, blush and highlight really does give the skin life – cream products give the most natural finish and make your skin look super-polished,” says Abrahamovitch. “Apply Victoria Beckham Beauty’s cream sculpting Contour Stylus Precision Stick, first to add dimension to the face.” Draw two lines on either side of the bridge of the nose, line the hollows of the cheekbones, and across the temples at the hairline, then blend it well. “The stick has a slim applicator so you can get into those small areas of the face very easily,” she says. “Follow this with a cream blush to add color and freshness, and then finish with a cream highlighter for radiance. When using creams, you can go over these with powders for a stronger look, but cream products alone give the freshest finish.”
Don’t dismiss brows
“Brows really do pull the whole look together, so make it a key part of your makeup routine. A really quick and easy way to enhance them is to start with a brow pencil and draw soft, natural hair strokes in any gaps or sparse areas to add fullness and density. Then apply a brow gel to set the hairs in place.”
Less is more for lips
“If you have a minute left to spare, I would then add a little color to the lips. I love the Victoria Beckham Beauty Bitten Lip Tints for a hydrating flush of color.” Try Poupette for a barely there, suits-all-skin-tones rosy nude, or Bisou for a slightly darker, berry-tinged hit.
