The chic sleep: ME Ibiza

ME Ibiza on S’Argamassa Beach

On the island of hedonism, you can find everything from boutique bohemian stays to art-hotel kitsch. But if you’re looking for a taste of city slick with beachfront luxury and Ibiza spirit, ME is very you. By JENNIFER DICKINSON

Lifestyle

Ibiza’s wild-child reputation can often overshadow its natural beauty. Sure, you’re guaranteed a great night out here, but the days are more about simple pleasures: there are coves to discover, ceramics to shop for and cocktails to watch stunning sunsets over. For the best place to explore them all from, everything you could want is on tap at ME Ibiza. The minimalist Mediterranean decor – white mixes with raffia, wood and splashes of azure blue – encompasses gadget-packed modern rooms, a terrace spa, a rooftop cocktail bar and a ground-floor restaurant open to those incredible sunsets (don’t miss the breakfast here, no matter how late you partied the night before). There are three pools, but the two nicest are adults only, so if you’re coming with kids you’ll need to get out and about for variety. The on-site kids club, though, is nothing short of wondrous – open all day and staffed by a team who behave as though you’ve brought their long-lost favorite relatives to hang out and paint pottery, make bracelets or play dress up. After dark, you only need to walk next door to find the famed Nikki Beach Club and indulge in Ibiza’s legendary nightlife.

THE DETAILS

Relax

Positioned in one of the island’s best spots, Santa Eulalia, the view at ME is hard to tear yourself away from – especially if you head up to the rooftop infinity pool. But force yourself to rent a little rib boat for the day and buzz along the coastline, dipping (literally) into the plethora of picturesque coves. It’s the perfect way to discover Ibiza’s hidden treasures and reconnect to life’s natural rhythm.

Shop

It’s worth bringing an empty suitcase with you to Ibiza. ME’s own boutique is an upmarket edit of the island’s laid-back-luxe approach to fashion, and outside the resort you’ll find serious interiors inspiration. The store at Los Enamoradas Ibiza is a treasure trove of irresistible items, though it’s worth ducking into almost any white-washed building with knick-knacks displayed outside, because taking home a brightly painted piece of pottery or shell-strewn necklace will ensure the spirit of Ibiza stays with you long after your return.

Stretch

Ibiza is an island of opportunity for yoga lovers, and at ME you can expand your horizons with an actual view of the horizon at the on-site antigravity yoga classes. Using slings attached to the ceiling, you’ll find yourself going further than your mind has ever allowed you before.

Must do

Hop in one of the hotel’s flashy white Range Rovers (the ultimate in airport pick-ups) and head to nearby Ibiza Town where you can catch a boat across to Formentera, a tiny island where the beaches are akin to the Caribbean – strips of sand lapped by waters so calm that even sea-phobes will enjoy swimming across to the rock clusters and marvelling at the entirely different pace of life that exists here. When you get hungry, pitch up at ChezzGerdi beach club and order fresh-from-the-waters fish.
