Kayla Itsines’ AM/PM Routine
She’s the world’s biggest fitness influencer who created the workout app ‘Sweat’ (which has been downloaded more than 30 million times) and has written two books – all before the age of 30. Here, KAYLA ITSINES reveals her day and night beauty and health routine
IN THE MORNING
I double cleanse…
I’ll put my hair in a ponytail…
In the gym…
…the rule I live by is to not touch my face while working out, and I don’t let my clients either, not even to wipe away sweat. I make sure to wipe down the equipment before and after using it – people don’t think about how dirty they are.
I have a very balanced diet…
…and I don’t cut things out, such as carbs. It’s my number one health rule. Just like working out, I think everyone is different and you have to find something that works for you. If you don’t enjoy it and it doesn’t serve you happiness, then don’t do it.
During the holidays…
…I don’t feel guilty for eating, although it’s important to have self-control. You should definitely celebrate and have a great time, but make sure you drink lots of water, take electrolytes if you’re traveling, try to walk everywhere, and don’t be excessive with what you eat and drink.
IN THE EVENING
I don’t always work out…
…because there are days when I just don’t want to, and I don’t feel bad about it because I know that I’ll get back to it in a couple of days. I still go for a 30-minute walk every morning and if I can’t get outdoors, I’ll at least walk on the treadmill.
I stretch…
…I do this after my magnesium salt bath to soothe my muscles, but I think every woman should do calf and glute stretches. If you spend all day sitting at a desk with your legs crossed, you have back pain or you wear high heels, do these stretches every single day and I can guarantee that you will prevent or lessen back pain.
I taught myself how to apply makeup…
…by watching YouTube tutorials. One of my favorite YouTubers is Sazan Hendrix, who creates incredible day and nighttime looks. In the evening, I go a little more glam – I love the coverage of NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. For the eyes, Huda Beauty’s Rose Gold Palette is incredible, and I always wear black liquid liner and By Terry waterproof mascara, and sometimes false lashes. I love bronzer and highlighter, and the perfect nude lip is Marc Jacobs Beauty lipliner in (Nude)ist.
My best beauty tip…
…is to put Sudocrem [an over-the-counter medicated cream] on top of blemishes. Three models I met in London told me this separately so I had to try it. If I have a spot, I’ll put on a blemish gel and then Sudocrem and sleep with it on. It’s soothing and antibacterial; I swear it gets rid of any pimples.
My husband and I meditate…
…Tobi makes me a cup of chamomile tea every night and then we meditate to Headspace, and if we can’t sleep, we listen to Relaxing Melodies or the Calm app, which has sounds that help you fall asleep.
