The first thing I do when I wake up is…

…drink a big glass of warm water with a pinch of sea salt in it, to kickstart my metabolism. It warms up my whole digestive system and gets things moving. It also helps move my chi around. I always drink water at room temperature – and if I can get one glass in before 8am, I feel I’m being good about my hydration.

I keep my morning skincare routine very simple

I focus more on getting my circulation going, apply a serum, moisturizer and then my makeup. I start by using my HBFIT muslin cloth soaked in semi-warm water to get all my skincare from the night before off my face. Once my skin is prepped, I go in with a Right now, I’m using Eadem Milk Marvel Dark Spot Serum and a gel moisturizer over top.

For my everyday ‘going to work’ makeup…

…I use my Etherealist Super Natural Concealer in Medium EC 05 first. It’s so creamy and is the perfect shade for me. I then apply a cream blush and a bit of Ultra-Flex Brow Shaping Gel. Then, I usually just zhuzh my hair. If I have a blowout, I’ll throw some Dry Shampoo in there. If I have my hair curly, I’ll spritz it with a little Curl Elixir from Sienna Naturals. If I’m wearing my hair slicked back, I’ll use Tigi Bedhead Hair Wax Stick for a little edge control.

I never drink coffee on an empty stomach…

…and I always add a tablespoon of when I do have a coffee. If I need a caffeine break, I’ll make a coffee alternative using Dandy Blend, which is ground dandelion. I usually make my coffee then start on my skincare routine – that’s my little morning wellness routine. I love routines – they really ground me, no matter how hectic life feels.

I love reading science and astrology books

My husband and I are big on astrology. I follow a woman called or on Instagram, who recently wrote a book called Signs & Skymates. I think we forget how connected we are to the universe, so this is my way of interacting with the cosmos. I also use a horoscope app by which offers meditations – I’ll often do one of her 10- or 12-minute mindfulness meditations in the morning. They’re generally about everything that’s in the cosmos, but they can also be about opening your heart or being grounded or understanding your sense of home.

I recently got into blow-drying my own hair

It’s something I used to absolutely hate. I grew up getting weekly blowouts but, during the pandemic, I went heat-free for almost six months, so that was a big shift in terms of really embracing my natural texture – my hair is quite curly and quite fine, but I have a lot of it. The beauty of my hair is that I can do different styles with it, so now it really feels fun to do it myself. I still like to get a blowout every two weeks because it means I can wear my hair straight for a week and then wear it curly for a week, and then continue that pattern. I feel empowered by it because there are so many amazing products and tools for textured hair now – I like to use a round brush and a T3 hairdryer when I dry it myself.

I love a double cleanse at night

I use either a balm or an oil-based cleanser as my first cleanse, and then I go in with my muslin cloth to get all of my makeup off. If I’m wearing eye makeup, I need to be cautious about my lashes because I’ve been wearing lash extensions for the past four months. I wrap the cloth around my index finger and get into the crevices of my eyelid, without messing up my lashes. For my I use a gel or a foam-based formula. I love IS Clinical Cleansing Complex, as well as Darker Skin Tones Foam Cleanser and her Enzyme Cleanser, which I use twice a week.

I never use a towel on my face

I let my skin air-dry instead. But, when it’s slightly damp, I use either a probiotic facial mist or a brightening toner, depending on how my skin is feeling that evening. I love the Minty Mineral Hydration Mist. Then I apply a mix of serums. I have serums that hit every category, and I focus on what I need each evening. I layer them on depending on their consistency – from watery to thick. If I focus on hydration, I use Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum. If I want more of a treatment, I like The Serum or Alpha-H’s Liquid Gold. I finish with a thick moisturizer, or an oil, as my final step. I especially love the consistency of Active Botanical Serum.

I use an app created by Nasa astronauts to help with jet lag

It’s called – and it’s amazing. You put in your travel itinerary, including your return flights, and it tells you what to do on the airplane to prepare for the time change and reduce – for instance, “sleep immediately when you board, get up after four hours and have a shot of espresso”. It’s very specific. It will help you adjust to the time change – even if you’re only away for 48 hours – how to function on your destination time and how to readjust when back home. It’s so interesting.

I eat for my hormones

What that means is what I’m eating during my ovulation phase is different to what I’m eating during my luteal phase. I’ve read a book called In the Flo, by Alisa Vitti, and she outlines everything – from vegetables and proteins to nuts and seeds and carbs – that is good for each phase to help your body regulate and optimize itself. You don’t have to eat everything she tells you. Even just incorporating some foods into your meal plan is really beneficial. I also eat seasonally, so I try to buy from my local farmers’ market.

I always get movement into every day…

…whether that’s simply stretching or walking. If I’m at home and I want a quick burst of exercise to wake my body up, I’ll use the app. She has 11-minute arm workout videos that I love, and she does band workouts that can be as short as six minutes but you really feel the burn. Otherwise, I go to a class or hit the gym and do a 30-minute walk on the treadmill on an incline of 12 on speed 3. It’s what people refer to on TikTok as the hot-girl walk. I did it even when I was pregnant.
