What I’m Wearing This Holiday Season
Whether they’re hitting the dance floor or savoring some downtime with loved ones, seven tastemakers from across the globe share the outfits making them feel fabulous during the festivities

“I will be spending this holiday season in Los Angeles with my boyfriend’s family. My mother is visiting from Paris as well – we’re set for a sunny Christmas. I’m excited to go to holiday dinners with friends and get dressed up. In the winter spirit, I’ll wear a dress and Saint Laurent knee-high boots. I just got a fun JW Anderson ‘Bumper’ bag I’m excited to style. I’m also looking forward to re-wearing long coats – I love Proenza Schouler’s designs. My go-to brands for dressing up are Nensi Dojaka, Loewe, Paco Rabanne, Mônot and Saint Laurent. I love layering dainty necklaces or wearing a statement necklace by Bottega Veneta or earrings by Amina Muaddi, and chunky rings are a big must for me. If I’m wearing a more neutral look, I love styling it with a colorful or sparkly bag from Jacquemus or Paco Rabanne. I also like to wear cozy sweaters by Acne Studios and Ganni, layered with an oversized blazer – I love baggy blue jeans from Isabel Marant and some black ballet flats by Porte & Paire and, if I am having a bad hair day, a cool cap.”

“This year, I will hopefully be bundled up with my partner Chris and his son Kenzo in our Brooklyn home. I’m looking forward to wearing tons of Stella McCartney, Staud and Ganni during Art Basel [in Miami]. Their pieces are always functional, easy to throw on, and can be worn day or night. I have some big plans to wear Rosie Assoulin for an exciting launch coming up that I’ve spent more than a year developing. You can find me consistently in Tibi or Petar Petrov as well – they’re perfect for last-minute evening events and parties. Anything by Batsheva offers an instant vibe – the second you put it on, it’s obvious you’re ready to party. I don’t match my outfits to my menu, though; I love to serve humble or simple food but go all out with my wardrobe – a full-blown sequin Paco Rabanne moment or even a Rodarte slip dress with a fun Paris Texas shoe. For a gift, I’d like a donation to the Women’s Prison Association, Edible Schoolyard, Fungi Foundation or Project Glimmer.”

“I’ll be in the UK this year, flitting between London and Margate – this will be the first Christmas we’ve spent in the Margate house and I’m excited about what festivities will feel like by the UK coast. The festive season incorporates my birthday, which for me marks the beginning of Christmas celebrations. This is a special birthday, so I bought an incredible gold metallic lamé Rick Owens dress for the event with a neck feature that was going to make me look like a Quality Street wrapper. Then I discovered that I’m pregnant, so the whole look needs to be reworked. My general approach is to go all in with the shine and glitter, so I’ve been searching for something that works with the bump. At the moment, there’s a reliable glittery Stella McCartney jumpsuit contending with a black-and-white Sergio Hudson catsuit (the catsuit is winning). I know Coco Chanel said before you leave the house to look in the mirror and remove one accessory, but I tend to do the opposite. I’ve had a gold Lanvin bracelet for years and, before I leave the house, I always find myself looking in the mirror and putting it on.”
Sophie Ashby, interior designer
“This year I’ll be at home in east London with my husband Charlie, our daughter Gaia and our families. I’m hosting a Christmas drinks party for Sister by Studio Ashby at Blewcoat, our new showroom and studio HQ in St James’s Park, and know I would feel so good in Gucci’s ‘Love Parade’ silk-satin midi dress – it’s so beautiful and decorative; just what you want for the festive season. In fact, I’m all about the accessories; I love statement jewelry and lots of it, fabulous shoes, beautiful sculptural bags, silk scarves and a great oversized (usually men’s) coat. Quite often, my actual clothes are pretty understated and simple, so the interest comes from the accessories – I think of them like the artwork to an interior and want them to have the same impact. I love Benedetta Bruzziches’s crystal-embellished chainmail mules – they’d bring any black dress to life, while Joseph is perfect for relaxed days – the clothes just fit me so well, with silhouettes that always flatter and fabrics that drape beautifully. I have lots of the label’s knitwear and simple trousers. I am also a big Toteme fan and find everything I get from the brand becomes a fast, well-worn favorite.”

“I’ll be spending the holidays in Tokyo, Japan. My go-to brands for dressing up are some of my favorite Australian designers: Christopher Esber and Dion Lee. This festive season is all about the accessories; I love Amina Muaddi and Saint Laurent. I’ll add some Pat McGrath Labs shimmer to my eyes, too – I usually do a smoky green metallic wet look. For more relaxed days, I’ll wear my Acne Studios shirt. Last year I spent Christmas alone in lockdown, so this year – as cringe as it may sound – the best gift will be spending time with loved ones.”

“We’ll be spending the holidays at home in Toronto this year, nestled inside. My son’s away at university and it’ll be nice to have him back for some quiet time. My husband’s annual holiday party is around the corner and I’m looking forward to debuting a couple of new pieces I purchased from The Row (my favorite brand). The ‘Armelle’ shirt, with those sharp, elongated collars, paired with the ‘Batani’ velvet coat is my perfect holiday outfit. With a bold collar I tend to keep accessories classic and elegant, so David Yurman’s crossover white-gold and diamond hoops complete the look. For more relaxed days, I prefer loungewear and vintage Levi’s; comfort is key and that typically means oversized and soft. James Perse has a nice offering of cozy sweaters, tees and jersey pants. I love giving and receiving gifts at Christmas – much like my children! I have my eye on a set of stacked rings by Spinelli Kilcollin, so I’ll be dropping hints and annoying my husband from now until December 25th.”

“I will be spending my holidays between New York and Atlanta with family – we’re not doing anything grand, [it’s just about] the joy of being together. I have a strapless, faux-fur-trimmed Saint Laurent dress in mind, plus a pair of knee-high boots from Manolo Blahnik that I’m thinking about wearing for the perfect mix of elegance and festive. It is kind of tough to choose my go-to brands for dressing up because I love mixing, but I’d go with Rick Owens for the fluidity of his dresses, Lanvin for the ‘wow’ effect, and Dries Van Noten because there is always that one top or pair of pants that makes the difference. As for gifts, the material answer would be more bags and shoes! But on a deeper level, I would love to gift myself the time of being present and to enjoy the little things a bit more.”
