How to attend NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER’s Letters Live event
Letter writing is something of a forgotten art, which is a tragedy, because written missives over 140 characters, anticipated, poured over and turned to time and again, are powerful, descriptive mementos. PORTER’s long-standing relationship with the Letters Live events – inspired by the popular initiative Letters of Note, which unearths and shares glorious letters both past and present – has so far encompassed two evenings of readings from the likes of Raquel Welch, Mary J. Blige, Natalia Vodianova, Melanie Griffith and Florence Welch, as well as generating original accounts by Nicole Kidman, Simone Biles, Amber Heard and tennis champion Serena Williams. When Oscar-winner Brie Larson looked for a letter that meant something to her to read out, she found Williams’ note for PORTER – the combination of two incredible women, below, is a must watch.
But there’s nothing quite like experiencing these very special performances in person, so NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER have teamed up with Letters Live to stage their first-ever public performance on February 26 at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, with a roster of incredible women and men lined up to perform – Anjelica Huston, Christine Keener, Shirley Manson, Minnie Driver and Annabelle Wallis will join James Corden, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ian McShane, Jarvis Cocker, Mark Hamill and Stephen Fry to read a variety of poignant, powerful and funny letters. Buy one of the few remaining tickets here, with all profits from tickets sales going to charity, split equally between 826LA, which supports students with creative and expository writing skills, and Women for Women International, a non-profit humanitarian organization providing practical and moral support to female survivors of war.
