7 of the best lash enhancers
Getting perfectly curled, long, lush eyelashes can be a challenge, unless you have the right tools and products. DANIELLE FOX reveals the true greats…
Call it a lash renaissance. This season saw the runways awash with supersized, statement lashes, from Ralph & Russo’s graphic approach and Marc Jacobs’ ’60s-inspired feathery finish to Gucci’s overtly exaggerated lash line and Valentino’s heavy-metal gold-fringe lash. And while what you see on the catwalk is a ‘show version’ of what would actually work in the real world, we felt inspired to bring you the very best lash enhancers and products to bolster, boost and thicken your lash line, without the need for falsies.
Best for coaxing a curl
Beauty obsessives widely consider this curler to be one of the very best on the market – and we have to agree. This gently elongates eyelashes without breakages or pinching to leave a super-natural soft curl with no hard edges.
Best for preventing breakage
Just like your hair, lashes can be prone to snapping and breaking – the key, therefore, is to hydrate and condition. In the same way that you would introduce a deep-conditioning treatment for your locks, do the same with your lashes. While it doesn’t promise growth, we’ve seen a noticeable difference to the strength and shine of lashes when using this oil overnight.
Best for instant thickness
Think of primer as scaffolding for your lash, providing a perfectly tacky surface for the mascara to adhere to. A coat of this primer from Hourglass before mascara will give you lusher, longer, thicker lashes instantly.
Best for bespoke lash definition
What we love about this mascara is it offers two finishes in one. Glide the straight brush across lashes to curl and lengthen, or twist the wand and transform the head into a more curved shape to separate and thicken hairs for definition – genius!
Best for encouraging growth
When you think of lash growth, you probably think of the Advanced Eyelash Conditioner in this set – and for good reason. Originally developed by a US ophthalmologist, the cocktail of peptides and nutrients hydrate, improve elasticity, protect from breakage and stimulate growth. Apply to the lash line each night and expect to see results in a matter of weeks.
Best for lash separation
While we’re reluctant to recommend yet another product to add to your makeup bag, we’ve quickly made room for this lash tool from Hourglass. Use it in conjunction with either your favorite primer or mascara (we’ve been known to dip the tool in lash oil) and the stainless-steel tip will define and separate even the smallest hairs.
Best for an everyday booster
A cleanser may not be the first thing you think of for boosting lashes; however, this intelligent offering from the Duchess of Sussex’s facialist Sarah Chapman has been designed with lash conditioning in mind. The cocktail of arnica extract, chamomile and aloe vera nourishes the lash and boosts growth while cleansing the surrounding skin of the day’s pollutants.
