Sarah Chapman’s AM/PM routine
She is one of the world’s most sought-after facialists and the woman responsible for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s wedding glow, so what does SARAH CHAPMAN swear by for her own beauty routine? Here, she talks through each step and shares the products she uses every day
IN THE MORNING
As soon as I wake up…
…I brush my teeth. It doesn’t sound very exciting, but I have an amazing new Japanese Ion-Sei toothbrush; the first time I used it, it was like I had been to the hygienist. Then I have a cup of hot water with lemon, check my emails and social media and walk the dog or do a Peloton workout – I might just do 10 minutes but, after that, I’m ready to take on the world.
I like to layer up skincare…
…starting with the Sarah Chapman Skinesis Stem Cell Collagen Activator, then Age Repair Concentrate, Dynamic Defence Moisturiser and, finally, Skin Insurance SPF 50+. Unless I’m doing something important, I just wear Skin Insurance and no makeup, as it gives the skin a lovely finish. If I’m filming or doing an Instagram Live, I use the 3D Moisture Infusion Mask and do lots of massage to get some life into my skin. I do much more in the morning than in the evening, such as using masks and microneedling with the Meso-Melt Infusion System – you then get to enjoy the results on your skin for the rest of the day.
I dry-brush in the shower…
…as I don’t like salt and oil scrubs. Afterwards, I use CeraVe’s Moisturising Lotion, as it’s great for really dry skin and you can get dressed straight after applying.
On a ‘bad-face day’…
…I use my cleanser and even more massage, getting the knuckles into the skin to really get the blood circulating. Afterwards, l use my Liquid Facial Resurfacer and then double-mask using the Instant Miracle Mask, which you peel off after it sets, followed by the 3D Moisture Infusion Sheet Mask. After all that, my skin is so glowy. If I wear makeup, adding a drop of oil – either the Morning or Overnight Facial – to foundation makes my skin look extra dewy.
I love Peloton…
…but I also do a lot of Barrecore and Pilates – and I love going for long walks in the park.
I don’t eat dairy or gluten
Other than that, my diet is fairly normal. But I used to have all sorts of problems and couldn’t eat broccoli, sesame seeds or peppers – I think I just ate too much broccoli! I have quite a sensitive gut, but I’m an eater and I don’t do fasting because, if I skip a meal, I can feel quite faint.
I love fresh-face makeup
Chanel Vitalumière Aqua foundation has a lovely finish, and I do like a rosy-pink blush from Charlotte Tilbury – her Hollywood Flawless Filter brings shape and life to skin. I use whatever black mascara I can find, but it’s usually from Nars.
Before flying…
…I drink plenty of water and avoid salty food and alcohol for 24 hours – it makes such a difference. When I arrive at my destination, I get straight into the new time zone when it comes to eating and sleeping – and have showers to rev up and baths to relax. Aromatherapy Associates’ Revive and Deep Relax oils are great – the Deep Relax completely knocks you out.
IN THE EVENING
When I need nurturing…
…I have a bath with magnesium salt and Aromatherapy Associates’ Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil – especially if I’m feeling tired and achy. Otherwise, my routine is pretty fast: cleanse, serum, my Overnight Facial and off to bed.
I like using hair masks…
…especially Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer. I use it in the shower and do some Pilates moves to fill the time. I put my feet in a ballet second position [feet hip distance apart, with feet pointing outwards in opposite directions], then raise and lower the heels – it’s good for the legs and the butt. Plus, if you have to wait for a hair mask to work, then it’s good to do something while you wait.
To prep for an event…
…I do everything I can the night before, rather than on the day itself. If I have time, I’ll use my 10-day Radiance Recharge System. The night before, I sleep in the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer hair mask, do some microneedling with my Meso Melt Infusion System and apply a vitamin-C ampoule. On the evening of the event, I use the 3D Moisture Infusion Mask and add some oil to my foundation for that glossy look. Hair by Sam McKnight’s Cool Girl Barely There Texture Mist is great, as my hair can be a bit flat. I love either a shimmery eyeliner or a deep navy one, as black can be too harsh.
The best advice I’ve been given…
…is never take no for an answer. Also, stick to what you think is right and don’t be swayed by other people’s opinions. So many people told me not to use the name Overnight Facial – now I get told all the time what a clever name it is.
My favorite spa is…
…Villa Stéphanie in Baden-Baden in Germany – for some hardcore medical wellness. I once spent five days doing the full program of daily vitamin drips, infusions and all the health checks. I felt exhausted when I came back but, within two weeks, I felt fantastic.
If I’m feeling wired but tired…
…I take magnesium because it’s naturally calming.
On my bedside table…
…I have my Overnight Lip Concentrate; Margaret Dabbs London’s Foot Hygiene Cream (it’s so buttery), a sleep notebook that I don’t think I’ve even opened, and a pillow mist.
