The 6 Accessories You’ll Be Coveting This Season
Read on to discover SS25’s biggest accessory trends – and how to wear them this season and beyond. By COLLEEN ROSS
Bag charms
Of all the micro-trends to pique our interest this season, ‘Birkin-ifying’ takes the top spot. Coined as a hashtag on TikTok, it refers to the way tastemakers are accessorizing their bags in honor of the British-French actress, singer and style icon Jane Birkin, who famously adorned her namesake tote with an array of trinkets, charms and personal keepsakes. The trend has taken off on the runways, too, with brands including Balenciaga, Stella McCartney and Chloé all using keychains, baubles and scarves to customize their leather goods. Besides adding a sense of playfulness to your look, charms are a great way to express individuality and spark conversation. From Loewe + Suna Fujita’s knotted leather panda charm to Martha Calvo’s initial-tipped gold-plated chains, there are plenty of styles to choose from, either as a gift for yourself or a loved one.
Stacked belts
Wearing two, even three or four, belts at a time is the chicest way to accessorize an outfit right now – just ask show-goers at fashion week, who used them to cinch the waists of oversized coats and blazers, or to add attitude to low-slung jeans and skirts. Choosing a variety of colors and textures helps to keep things interesting, while skinnier widths make them easy to stack and thread through the loops of pants. Chloé, Saint Laurent and Bettter’s versions all come with timeless hardware in a mix of gleaming silver and gold.
Gloves
Evoking the glamour and elegance of a bygone era, gloves can make any outfit feel more polished with the right styling. Our top tip? Keep the length of your sleeves in mind. If they’re long, choose shorter gloves, and vice versa. Fabrics matter, too – those in sumptuous textures such as leather and cashmere are key to keeping things chic. Crafted from tan suede, Burberry’s wrist-grazing gloves are beautifully embroidered with the house’s initials, while Agnelle’s are embellished with gleaming silver studs. If you’re looking to inject some color into your look, Arch4’s ‘Snowberry’ pair, made from super-soft Mongolian-sourced cashmere and part of our NET SUSTAIN edit, will do the trick.
Sunglasses
Part of the joy of wearing sunglasses is the freedom they offer to experiment – from bold and statement-making to sleek and understated, there’s a pair to reflect your style and your mood. Some of this season’s most popular designs include ’70s-inspired aviators (such as Jacques Marie Mage’s D-frame ‘Seymour’ pair), classic cat-eye shades and futuristic oval frames. And Bottega Veneta Eyewear’s sunglasses are crafted from silver-tone metal, with arms cast to resemble the top-handle of the brand’s signature ‘Sardine’ tote.
Scarves
A scarf’s main purpose may be to keep us warm, but it’s also an easy way to add a touch of personality to trans-seasonal looks. Loewe’s ‘Anagram’ printed wool, silk and cashmere-blend style is perfect for elevating minimal outfits and looks elegant draped over the shoulders of a cashmere sweater, while The Row’s striped version will add a bohemian touch to your favorite spring trench or leather jacket. Meanwhile, Brunello Cucinelli’s scarf – a NET-A-PORTER exclusive – is knitted from a brushed-alpaca blend for tactility, and subtly embellished with the brand’s signature Monili beads.
Hair accessories
From sparkly pins to whimsical flowers and bows, statement hair accessories were spotted on and off the runways this season. Crystal-embellished clips were used to frame middle-parted hairstyles at Simone Rocha, while oversized floral corsages bloomed from immaculately coiffed updos at Carolina Herrera. For a simple take on the trend, try Lié Studio’s ‘The Molly’ hair clip – crafted from silver-plated brass, it’s perfect for securing a tousled bun or half-up hair. Alternatively, use Completedworks’ flower-shaped comb to sweep your hair away from your face.
