The beauty game changer: A modern highlighter

Your new makeup bag staple? Meet the highlighter that’s out-shimmering the rest, says CHANELLE HO

What is it?

NARS’ new Highlighter Powder, which claims to take skin luminescence to the next level.

Why is it so good?

Unlike most highlighting powders that can look heavy, sinking into pores or drawing attention to blemishes, NARS’ new Highlighter Powder is very, very finely milled, which means that it goes on like a second-skin veil, creating an almost retouched effect. Think of it as a sheen of all-over polish rather than a full-on skin strober.

Why you need it

It’s really easy to use because of its sheer formula, plus it comes in six flattering shades. A single layer gives a subtle, lit-from-within glow, but build it up and you can get a seriously luminescent complexion. The best part is that it’s glitter-free, meaning that even three or four layers later, it still looks like real skin – if real skin looked constantly radiant.

How to apply it

Use a tapered brush with loose bristles – it will softly diffuse the product while the pointed end lets you be more precise. “For added intensity, use a slightly damp brush,” says Andrew Gallimore, NARS’ UK makeup artist ambassador. “The water thins out the powder, making it more sheer, but intensifies the luminosity of the highlighting pearls to create a beautiful, celestial effect on the skin.”
