Wendy Rowe’s AM/PM routine

When she’s not working with models such as Cara Delevingne and Anja Rubik, in-demand makeup artist and Artistic Consultant to Burberry Beauty WENDY ROWE has an equally impressive side hustle. Her book, Eat Beautiful, is the definitive inside-out guide to glowing skin. She tells us how she kick-starts her mornings and winds down her evenings

IN THE MORNING

I wake up to my dog…

…a cockapoo called Teddy wagging his tail at the side of my bed. It’s much more positive than waking up to the screen of my phone. My dog trainer told me, “Be the person your dog wants you to be,” so I usually take Teddy with me for a morning run.

I often skip makeup…

…once or twice a week to give my skin a break, and just apply a cream. I switch between three or four moisturizers depending on how my skin feels, but often return to Lancer The Method: Nourish and Dr Nigma Talib Crème No 1. On the other days, I apply Sarah Chapman Skin Insurance (often mixing it with Burberry Beauty Fresh Glow Illuminating Drops or Fresh Glow B.B. Cream), Burberry Sheer Concealer where necessary, and mascara.

I sip a smoothie on the way to work…

…the blend varies according to the contents of my refrigerator, but always starts with a base of almond milk, ground flaxseeds, chia, spirulina, hemp powder and a spoonful of almond butter. I also take magnesium and calcium supplements as I workout a lot, and horsetail, which is great for your skin and liver.

Exercise helps to focus my mind…

…I always have a thousand things running through my head, but Body By Simone classes are so challenging, I have to really concentrate. I switch between four or five trainers so that each class is a little different.

Traveling makes me run-down…

…so I book REVIV therapy, an immune-boosting vitamin IV drip, once every two months. They have a concierge service that comes to you, so it’s really convenient. As a makeup artist I can’t afford to be sick – if I don’t turn up, the shoot falls apart – and doing this makes me feel noticeably more energized for days afterwards.

IN THE EVENINGS

I have an “MOT day” each week…

…I’ll use a nourishing or hydrating mask – Sarah Chapman Skinesis 3D Moisture Infusion Mask is a favorite – or I’ll follow Dr Lancer’s The Method treatment regime. When traveling, I light a few candles, usually Byredo’s Bibliothèque, but at home I have Diptyque Baies Hourglass Diffuser in my bedroom.

My emergency go-to is…

…Eau Oxygénée, a solution available at most French pharmacies. I dab it onto spots overnight to help destroy the bacteria that causes irritation. My manicurist in Paris recommended it as she uses it to help heal hangnails and reduce redness.

I’m a real worrier before bed…

…so I get into sleep mode by following guided meditations on the Insight Timer app. I particularly love Sarah Blondin’s Live Awake podcast as she has such an amazing voice. Sleep mists always help, too – whenever I’m at Chiva-Som, I pick one up from the spa.

I’m a big believer in vibrational energy…

…the higher your vibrational energy, the more positive you feel. If something has upset or annoyed me, I set time aside for a 90-minute rebalancing meditation. I also keep a calming rose quartz crystal in my bedroom and always travel with labradorite to encourage protection and reflection.
