Jessica Seinfeld’s Hamptons
The US author and philanthropist, who lives in Amagansett with her husband, comedian Jerry Seinfeld, and their three children, shares her guide to New York’s beach escape
For a stylish bite
“During the summer, I prefer to eat at home with my family and friends; I get fish fresh off the docks in Montauk or at Stuart’s in Amagansett, and I love to grill veggies from our garden or the farm stands that dot the roadsides in the Hamptons. When we do go out, my favorite restaurants are The Highway and Duryea’s Lobster Deck, and we’ll celebrate birthdays and family traditions at the East Hampton Grill and The Palm. If I’m meeting girlfriends, we grab something at Juice Press, then sit on a bench and people-watch.”
For all the essentials
“Our little town of Amagansett has independent stores that my daughter, Sascha, and I love to go to together, like the well-curated Lazy Point and Tiina the Store for pieces from all over the world. There’s a great shop for gifts called Love Adorned, and Botanica Bazaar for delicious skin products. I love to shop for everything kitchen-related at Loaves & Fishes in Bridgehampton, while the Goop Sag Harbor shop has everything wonderful for the home and body. For clothing, East Hampton has tons of popular boutiques like Zimmermann, Alice + Olivia, James Perse, Nili Lotan and Eres. There is also fabulous shopping in Southampton, but I won’t brave the traffic from my house. And why do that when NET-A-PORTER offers same-day delivery to the Hamptons?”
For a nightcap
“We usually like to drink at home on our rooftop, but when we want to go out for a sunset cocktail, we’ll often take out our little Boston Whaler boat. We sit with a bottle of wine and some cheese and watch the sun go down.”
For great views
“We always take guests to Montauk Point and the lighthouse, which sits on the easternmost point of Long Island – the beaches around there have some of the best surfing on the entire East Coast. Ditch Plains is a great place to watch surfers and see a cross-section of Hamptons life.”
For some headspace
“I am not much of a relaxer as I have children and lots of friends who keep me active and busy. Instead, I play tennis or take a walk on the beach – it’s a great way to catch up with my husband or friends and get some exercise in. I often take a sunset ride on my sweet old horse, Cruise, in the vineyard at Wölffer Stables; afterwards, my daughter and I will grab pizza at La Capannina. We also love to take our boat to Shelter Island for lunch at Marie Eiffel Market and our kids wakeboard off the back. But when I need to slow down, the facials and body treatments at Onda in Sag Harbor are not to be missed – they’ll undo what you have overdone in the sun.”
