Everybody’s wearing tie-dye
Don’t call it a comeback: the mind-bending print gets a modern update for 2019
Beloved by ’60s flower children, ’70s hippies and ’90s skaters, tie-dye is now the preserve of 2019’s cool kids. Previously associated as a ‘throwback trend’, with the connotations of free spirit and artistic flare, this season the updated print displays a unique range of color combinations, elevated fabrics and unanticipated cuts. And it’s not just T-shirts getting the psychedelic treatment; this time round, designers including Prada, Ninety Percent and The Elder Statesman have branched out and are using the bold pattern on everything from A-line dresses to silk skirts. For a wearable workwear option, style a tie-dye dress with a slouchy blazer and pair of barely-there sandals. At the weekend, keep it classic and casual by teaming a tie-dye tee with blue-wash denim.
