Get dressed with Giedrė Dukauskaitė
Stepping out in everything from Matrix sunglasses to silk headscarves at the FW18 Fashion Weeks, Lithuanian model GIEDRĖ DUKAUSKAITĖ really raised the bar for off-runway style. Here’s how to inject your own closet with some of her eclectic elegance
Dress for yourself
“As a model I get to try on a lot of clothes, so I know what works for me and what doesn’t. Plus, I’ve learned how to put a strong look together. When I’m trying on new stuff I always ask myself, do I feel comfortable? Does this make me feel cool? There are no bad pieces, it just comes down to how they make you feel. Personally, I love color; I don’t really wear a lot of black. I’m also a huge fan of the skirt suits and Working Girl-style pieces that are in fashion right now. I love modernizing vintage suits by wearing them with fresh shoes and accessories.”
Elevate the everyday
“My look doesn’t change too much from day to night. I just try to look a little more refined by pairing a chic top with the same jeans I’ve been wearing that day and switching my sneakers for a pair of loafers or boots. Sure, I love heels and dresses, but they just aren’t practical; they’re pretty to wear at an event for a few hours but I couldn’t handle them for much longer than that. Deep down, I am a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl.”
Consider the finer details
“I’m obsessed with silk scarves; they’re an easy way to elevate a look and add a dash of color, and I always pack a selection in my luggage. When it comes to jewelry, I have a few delicate pieces that I like to wear every day. I have rings from Repossi and Catbird that I never take off. I also keep a stash of earrings on my night stand, and every morning I wake up and just pick whatever pair I’m feeling for that day.”
Take beauty seriously
“No amount of makeup, styling tricks or products can beat a healthy glow. Day-to-day, I don’t wear much makeup, I prefer the natural look, but I am very strict when it comes to my hair and skincare regimen. I do a hair mask twice a week and also use lip masks, face masks and serum every day.”
Be inspired
“My style icons are Carrie Bradshaw, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and Princess Diana. And there should be a man in the mix because I wear a lot of men’s clothing, too; maybe James Bond, or anyone in a great suit! What I love about all of those women is that they owned their look and were just happy to be themselves. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched Sex and the City, and honestly the only thing I concentrate on is Carrie’s outfits. I love how she plays with different colors and adventurous pieces; her looks are always surprising. Carolyn’s style was a true reflection of herself; she wasn’t trying to be someone else. She had a strong sense of self, and her clothes captured that. And Princess Diana? She is a legend.”
