Anouk Yve, wearing jeans by Alaïa, enjoys playing off the masculine/feminine contrast of a barrel-leg denim style

“Barrel-leg jeans are a go-to if you want a clash between masculine and feminine,” says Anouk Yve, who has more than 1.4 million people keeping up with her signature mirror shots on Instagram. When styling the jean shape of 2024 (also known as the ‘horseshoe’) that’s also set to be just as big in 2025, Yve is teaming their exaggerated curves with everything from trench coats and sneakers to smart blazers and pointy heels. “I love to wear my barrel-leg jeans with beautiful pumps; and for an evening look, I’ll add a small handbag and a statement top to give the outfit an edge,” she shares. Follow Yve’s lead in Alaïa’s topstitched black jeans (also spotted on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), or choose from the different blues in Citizens of Humanity’s lineup.

Sylvie Mus, pictured wearing jeans by Toteme, showcases the versatility of gray denim with a classic white shirt and trench coat

“Gray jeans are a good option when you want to create a denim look that is refined, without feeling as casual as you might in classic blue jeans,” says Paris-based stylist Sylvie Mus, who nails the art of making even the most relaxed pieces look chic. The same applies to gray denim skirts in mini, midi and maxi lengths, too. When it comes to styling gray denim in washes ranging from stone to charcoal, Mus recommends sticking to a pared-back palette rather than toying with all shades of the rainbow. “This season, I plan to wear my gray denim with timeless colors, such as brown and black,” she says, “and I’ll mix different shades of gray together, too.” Turn to labels such as Toteme, NET SUSTAIN brand Agolde and Mother for straight-leg, horseshoe and wide-leg options that tick all the right boxes.

“I love how versatile straight-leg jeans are – they effortlessly balance comfort and style,” says Miami-based content creator Pam Arias, whose ultimate denim muse is Victoria Beckham. “They have a timeless silhouette that can be dressed up or down, making them a staple in my wardrobe. Plus, they elongate the legs and offer a flattering fit for almost any body type,” she adds. Take Arias’s advice by pairing yours with an oversized blazer, sleek bodysuit or sculptural top and heels for a “polished yet relaxed” evening ensemble, adding sleek gold jewelry and a berry-stained lip to tie the look together. NET SUSTAIN-approved brands Slvrlake and Loulou de Saison offer timeless styles in an array of washes, from light blue to the deepest indigo.

Amalie Gassmann favors wide-leg jeans for their polished versatility

“I love wide-leg jeans because they’re polished enough to elevate a casual look, yet still feel comfortable,” says LA-based photographer and filmmaker Amalie Gassmann. “They’re versatile and can transition seamlessly from day to night with the right shoes or jacket. I’ll be styling mine with a half-tucked knitted sweater, heeled boots and a black leather belt. I also like to add a trench coat or oversized blazer.” Gassmann’s favorite brands for jeans include Frame, Isabel Marant, Citizens of Humanity and Paige. As for her ultimate denim muse? “The iconic Jane Birkin – she always looked so cool and effortless.”
