Blue, white or faded, wide-leg jeans add a stylish sense of nonchalence to any look

Great denim is the foundation of any stylish wardrobe, and in the past year, there’s been a shift towards more exaggerated, wide-leg silhouettes. Take cues from the street-style set and embrace baggy, low-slung styles – or, for something more formal, wear your wide-leg jeans pressed and pleated, with a high rise. A good pair of wide-leg jeans adds a pleasing nonchalance to elegant tops and gives those off-duty-model vibes when paired with athleisure. Read on for some of the key styles to know…

Slouchy jeans for a laid-back look

As decreed by fashion insiders, the cool-girl way to do denim for SS25 is wide-leg and super-slouchy. Zimmermann’s ‘Illuminate’ jeans fit the brief perfectly with their high-rise waist and floor-pooling cuffs. For a more directional take, look to Alaïa’s stonewashed jeans – the draped asymmetric overlay is a huge trend for SS25. Plus, it’s detachable, so you can switch up your styling depending on your plans. Meanwhile, Citizens of Humanity’s ‘Ayla’ jeans are a versatile everyday choice. From our NET SUSTAIN edit, they’re made from 100% regenerative cotton and have a neatly tailored shape. Wear them on repeat with an oversized leather jacket or blazer.

A perfectly faded wash for everyday wear

When it comes to wide-leg jeans that are perfect for every day, you can’t go wrong with a faded blue wash. Take Toteme’s pair from our NET SUSTAIN edit, which is made from organic cotton and sits high at the waist. Style them with a denim shirt in the same shade of blue or a retro tee. Elsewhere, B Sides’ ‘Relaxed Cuffed Lasso’ jeans have a distinctive horseshoe shape and frayed turned-up cuffs that’ll work with any type of shoe, while Frame’s ‘Le Slim Palazzo’ jeans are the perfect weekend style.

Fresh white and cream hues

There’s something about white denim in spring that feels so fresh – and very welcome after months of cold-weather dressing. The trick to keeping things chic is to opt for sturdy fabrics and avoid anything resembling a skin-tight silhouette. Part of our NET SUSTAIN edit of more consciously crafted clothing, Agolde’s ‘Ren’ jeans are cut from rigid denim milled with 98% regenerative cotton fibers and come in a crisp ‘White Milk’ wash. Wear them with an oversized shirt and boat shoes, adding a softly structured tote and delicate jewelry to complete a chic off-duty look. Elsewhere, Gucci’s jeans have an exaggerated barrel-leg shape and look great styled with a tank and loafers, just like they were on the SS25 runway.

Darker denim

Make wide-leg denim work for the evening with darker washes and more streamlined fits. From our NET SUSTAIN edit and responsibly crafted in LA using lower-impact materials, Slvrlake’s ‘Mica’ jeans come in an indigo wash and have a low-rise waist that works perfectly with a pretty lace camisole, cashmere cardigan and mules. Citizens of Humanity’s ‘Petra’ jeans – another NET SUSTAIN highlight – are neatly tailored with flattering pleats at the waist, making them smart enough for the office. Style yours with a suede jacket and ankle boots or a silk blouse and slingbacks after hours.
