Holly Thaggard’s AM/PM routine
Entrepreneur and Supergoop! founder HOLLY THAGGARD changed daily suncare with her accessible, wearable wardrobe of SPFs. Here, she shares the importance of workouts, hot baths, power naps and reset fasting
IN THE MORNING
As soon as I wake up…
…I splash my face with cold water, brush my teeth (Marvis toothpaste is my favorite), and then I’m out the door to do an hour of Pilates or weight training.
I’m consistent with my skincare
I always start with my favorite Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil. I also like Summer Fridays’ Overtime Mask. I recently connected with April Gargiulo, who is the founder of Vintner’s Daughter, and I’m such a fan of her Active Botanical Serum. I tend to lean in to these brands with strong brand founders, like aesthetician Shani Darden’s skincare. My daily Supergoop! go-to is the Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF40 or the Mattescreeen SPF40.
I love anything uplifting in the shower…
…especially the Necessaire Body Wash in Eucalyptus. I’m a very loyal Olapex user, as the No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and the No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner have changed my hair. I’ve tried a lot of different hair products, but these are the best. After the shower, I use the Supergoop! Body Butter SPF40 – it’s been my favorite for years – and layer it with the Glow Oil SPF50, as I love the way it makes my skin shine.
I do intermittent fasting…
…and have recently done the ProLon five-day Fasting Mimicking Diet with my husband as a reset. I really enjoyed it – I do very well with structure and, surprisingly, didn’t feel hungry. But, by the end of the fifth day, you’re ready to grill some salmon and have a glass of wine. I used to hold off eating until 2pm, but I’m very loyal to my two trainers, and they require that I have protein straight after our morning workouts, so I’ve had to change the daily fasting.
My workout is my favorite hour of the day
I either do an hour of Pilates with my trainer, Richard, or a weights session with Travis. It’s so important for strengthening the bones – and if I’m not building muscle, it’s disappearing!
On a bad face day…
…I stick with what I know works – and that’s my NuFace device. I did an IG Live with Tera (Peterson), who’s the founder, and she walked me through it. I feel like it instantly hydrates and makes my skin look better.
The best advice I’ve ever been given…
…is from my parents. My mother is also an entrepreneur, as well as an incredible portrait painter, and she always says, “Find the help you need to get the job done; you don’t have to do it all by yourself.” My father says to me, “That’s great, Holly – now, what’s next?” When you feel good after a big win, follow up with another – as you’re on such a high, it’s the perfect time to knock the next thing out of the park.
IN THE EVENING
I start to unwind…
…and love to light a candle – usually Jo Malone London’s Lime Basil & Mandarin – and get into a hot bath, which helps me sleep better. I like to use the Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask and leave it on overnight, and I love the iconic Fresh Sugar Scrub and Saki Oil.
I try to take a nap if we’re going out
Getting enough rest and relaxation is always key for me, and a pre-event blow-out is always good. My skincare is more important to me than makeup, but I have my bronzy Nars lip gloss of choice in Laguna – and I do like Bobbi Brown’s new line, Jones Road.
My favorite facials are with…
…Shani Darden in LA – she is such an advocate for retinol and SPF. And in New York, I go to Heyday and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s spa. I like those aestheticians who deliver knowledge as well as a good treatment – so when you leave, you’re able to continue treating your skin well.
I have regular shiatsu massage
The therapist walks on my back and I love my time with her. Having time to myself has been really instrumental in keeping me on track, so no matter what comes at me – big or small – I’m grounded.
I don’t usually have a problem sleeping…
…but if I do, I read. It always works – and usually, I only get through one page…
On my nightstand I have…
… a carafe of water and a glass, a balm for my cuticles, and quite a few books. I’m finishing Dr. Valter Longo’s The Longevity Diet, which I read while doing his ProLon fast. I’m also re-reading Paul Tough’s How Children Succeed, as I have two teenagers. And Emily Heywood’s Obsessed: Building a Brand People Love from Day One – I’ve worked on my brand for 16 years, and doing something truly meaningful takes time. If you don’t put in the time, you won’t be as successful.
