How Rihanna Rocked The Super Bowl With Her Showstopping Jewels

The annual Super Bowl half-time show is renowned for its ability to grab headlines, and, this year, Rihanna took it to literally dizzying new heights. Performing on a sky-high elevated platform, the global superstar opened Sunday’s performance in Arizona with the surprise revelation of her second pregnancy – a baby bump cocooned in a bright scarlet Loewe jumpsuit and custom-made Alaïa puffer jacket. And if the pregnancy announcement and audacious head-to-toe hue weren’t enough to break the internet, then came the jewels.
The singer had pushed ear styling to a whole new level – she sported a flurry of Messika diamonds peppered on huggies, studs and cuffs, with pear-shaped stones lavishly suspended from the ear. An apt choice for the Diamonds singer, who has always shown unique flair for jewelry styling. (This was especially true during her previous pregnancy, when she famously attended the launch of Fenty Beauty wearing a string of diamonds – another Messika high-jewelry creation – around her bump.) With the mixed-and-matched ear jewels all crafted in white gold, Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance cemented the burgeoning trend – white-gold jewelry is back.
It would be unlike Rihanna to do anything by half measures, and the singer also revived another lost style – the brooch. Wearing three vintage-diamond designs by Joseph Saidian & Sons, a leading New York heritage jeweler, the singer dazzled in perhaps the most dramatic high-low athleisure look of the season so far. While we have come to expect big and bold jewels from Rihanna, there was one unexpected addition to her ensemble: a steel watch with more than 10 carats of pavé-set diamonds, featuring a scarlet leather strap that complemented her crimson jumpsuit. It seems jewelry watches aren’t just for after-dark dressing…
The finishing touch? A one-of-a-kind cocktail ring designed by Bayco, another stalwart in New York high-jewelry-making circles. While the singer wore gloves for part of the performance, once removed, it was impossible not to spot the ruby and diamond ring that weighed in at almost 20 carats. True to form, this was a dazzling performance – in more ways than one.
