Charlotte Tilbury’s Daily Beauty Hacks And Skincare Secrets
Makeup artist and entrepreneur CHARLOTTE TILBURY shares the lowdown on her ‘ice-skin gym’, the Brazilian body treatment she swears by, and the makeup essentials every woman should have
My teas, tinctures and supplements keep me going
If I wake up puffy, I ‘ice gym’ my skin
I’ve always used cryo on my clients and would use bowls of ice to depuff their skin. It’s an old Hollywood trick, but it’s amazing how much you can tighten and lift the face and close the pores. I keep my Charlotte Tilbury Cryo-Recovery Face Mask in the freezer and, if I’ve gone out and had a drink or not slept enough, this ‘ice gym’ for the skin gives an instant tightening effect, especially under the chin; I hold and press it up under my cheekbones to get that contoured look.
I have really dry skin…
…so, for my body, I have a mega-large pot of my Magic Cream that I mix with Kora Organics’ Noni Glow Body Oil – it gives the skin the most glowy look, especially if I’ve self-tanned. I love to use magnesium salts in the bath, too – they really help me sleep, and I’ll sometimes use a whole bag to cleanse the liver, or I’ll add pine essence if I am going out as it gives you energy. To wind down, I have my candles (I love Diptyque Figuier), I play my crystal-bowl sound bath, and I put all the crystals I’ve collected over the years around the bathtub – I really believe in their healing energy.
I learnt to do my own hair in lockdown…
…and I fell in love with the Dyson Airwrap – it gives that blow-dry finish. I use Inanch London’s Gold Class Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner, which is for extensions. I don’t actually have extensions, but my hair’s dry and it stops the knotting, so it’s amazing. I use Sam McKnight’s Cool Girl spray every day, plus Josh Wood’s Gloss in Auburn Copper – I’ve never dyed my hair, but this gives an amazing glossy shine and boosts my color.
I always wear makeup to bed
A tiny bit of eyeliner, mascara and sometimes my Wonderglow, because it has hyaluronic acid in it. So, in the morning, as I’m cleaning it all off, I do a double cleanse with my Goddess Cleansing Ritual – I love that steam clean with the muslin cloth. Then I complete my Magic skin routine, which includes my Magic Serum and Magic Cream – it’s what I always use before doing anyone’s makeup, as it plumps the skin and gives that glow-glide that’s perfect to put your makeup on straight after.
I’m terrible with exercise…
…but I’m sure wearing high heels every day does something for the legs and bottom.
Three days before I fly somewhere…
Sugar is the route to disaster
I try to avoid it, but that doesn’t always happen. I’ve started to eat more fish, vegetables and potatoes, and I try to drink three liters of water a day, as it makes a huge difference for me – the more water you drink, the less water the body retains, the better your skin looks and the more energy you have.
I love Brazilian body treatments
They’re so good for the lymphatic system and I’ve recently started seeing Flavia [Morellato] – her treatments make a huge difference in smoothing out and contouring the body. I have Collagen Wave facials with Nilam [Holmes], which are amazing for tightening and sculpting, as well as weekly IV drips. In fact, I’ve made a commitment to myself to have a facial or treatment once a week.
The essentials for the classic CT look
Start with my Wonderglow face primer – you’ll look as though you’ve just come out of the spa, and we all need that. Everyone looks gorgeous in Pillow Talk lipstick (available in three shades), too – whatever your natural lip color, it always looks so pretty. For a quick eye, swipe my Colour Chameleon [eye pencil] over the eyes and just smudge. They are color coded, so use bronze for green and hazel eyes, champagne for blue, or dark pearl for brown, and you can build it up if you want a smoky eye. Airbrush Flawless Finish powder has won [multiple] awards. When I first used it on Jennifer Lopez, she said to me, “What have you done with my pores?” – use it down the center of the face and there’s nothing better for that flawless look.
