Tina Craig’s AM/PM routine
As co-founder of the famed fashion blog Bag Snob, Tina Craig is a firm fixture on the fashion scene. Her sights are now set on skincare – and her U Beauty brand is already proving a global sell-out success. Here, she shares her daily beauty and wellness rituals
IN THE MORNING
I spend less than 10 minutes on my skin…
I start with Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water. I wash my face with it instead of using a cleanser, as my face is already very clean from the night before. I try to avoid tap water on my face whenever I can. Then I use my U Beauty Resurfacing Compound, followed by my new U Beauty Super Smart Hydrator – it hydrates the skin throughout the day where it needs it most. Next, I use a little bit of Clé de Peau Beauté Enhancing Eye Contour Cream Supreme, and I always finish with SPF, specifically Dr Barbara Sturm’s Sun Drops SPF 50 – I never leave the house without them.
Taking care of your body…
…is just as important as taking care of your face. I’ve used Dr. Bronner’s Organic Peppermint Castile Liquid Soap for 20 years. It might not sound glamorous, but it’s the best body wash, period. It’s packed with essential oils to keep the skin supple and soft. When I’m out of the shower I follow it with Uma Oils Absolute Anti-Aging Body Oil – it smells like a luxurious spa, not like my boring bathroom.
I take two daily supplements…
Lumity and virgin raw royal honey-bee pollen. I swear this routine strengthens my immune system and defends against flu during winter.
I detest breakfast…
…unless it’s an Asian breakfast. In the mornings, I have a cup of organic matcha tea with almond milk and collagen powder and half an avocado. I start power-eating at lunch, which usually consists of a chopped spinach or kale salad with chicken, or fish and pasta. I snack all afternoon. I keep cauliflower crackers at my desk (I’m not gluten-free, I just really love the taste of cauliflower). I have bowls of almonds and nuts everywhere. Trader Joe’s makes these amazing truffle-flavored almonds. These are my guilty pleasure, along with any variety of spicy chips. I don’t eat refined sugar or sweets. Dinner is whatever my teenage son asks me to cook. Usually, it’s Asian sukiyaki beef and rice, or something with curry and chicken.
I work out for 30-40 minutes…
…on the highest incline (15 percent) on my treadmill, while holding 3lb hand weights. It’s the best way for me to lose weight and gain muscle.
IN THE EVENING
I spend several evenings a week pampering….
…because I’m a real homebody. I do love baths, and I make my own bath salts with sea salt, lavender and coconut oils.
At night my regime is…
…quick! I use Tula cleansing oil and muslin cloths to deeply remove makeup and debris. Then I apply one pump of U Beauty Resurfacing Compound and brush my teeth while it dries. Next, I add the U Beauty Super Smart Hydrator. For my eyes, as in the morning, I use Clé de Peau Beauté Eye Contour Cream Supreme – it’s amazing. And for the body, I alternate Augustinus Bader The Body Cream and Costa Brazil Kaya Jungle Firming Body Oil.
When it comes to my hair…
…less is more, as with my skin. I rarely even brush it. I leave it to air-dry after using Virtue Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner, which I use twice a week. If I need to take photos or have Zoom press interviews, I’ll give it a quick refresh with the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and a flat iron.
I love to roll…
My grandmother had rollers for every part of her body! I used to love being assigned to roll her back. She taught me why we need to detox and how to do it. She also preached that healthy, glowing skin would make me feel confident. I recommend jade rollers. I keep a gua sha tool in my work and travel tote. It’s a great stress reliever and helps release the tension I hold in my neck.
Instagram keeps me awake…
…as does texting with friends. My business partner’s husband likes to joke that if she hasn’t heard from me by 7am, she’d better check to see if I’m still alive.
If I need help getting to sleep…
…I use the Headspace meditation app, a silk eye mask and my ‘sleepy time’ playlist, which consists of ’90s Chinese pop and anything on Sarah McLachlan’s Surfacing album. My twilight needs are very specific!
On my bedside table…
…is my Kindle – I read a lot. My favorite genre is World War II historical fiction. I also have my face roller – I wake up, roll over and roll! Then there’s my NuFace microcurrent tool – keeping it by my bed reminds me to use it. With regular use, I truly see a difference in my skin’s texture and firmness.
