The styling trick: Animal print + crisp stripes

Proving that there really is nothing you can’t pair with blue or black striped cotton, take your cue from the likes of Leandra Medine (above right) and navigate urban summer days with this shouldn’t-work-but-totally-does pairing. Throw on your favorite oversized masculine shirt with printed pants (adding a blazer for good measure if you need to sharpen up the look) – or, for a more off-duty approach, layer a short-sleeved shirt over shorts or a mini skirt.
