Estée Lalonde’s AM/PM routine
The Canadian-born, London-dwelling broadcaster and beauty obsessive shares her very specific skincare routine, confidence struggles and de-stressing secrets
IN THE MORNING
My day starts at 6.30am…
…with a wake-up call from my greyhound, Reggie, who stares at me until I walk him. I live in Bermondsey in south east London, so I’ll walk him around there and pick up the best coffee in London from this tiny neighborhood café, The Watch House.
I love a face mask…
…my favorite one for when I’m feeling a little rundown and tired is Charlotte Tilbury’s Goddess Skin Clay Mask – I wear it while I’m having my breakfast. Masks are also the best things to use to prep your skin for a shoot, an event or a night out. I love the Nannette de Gaspé Youth Revealed dry mask, and if I’m breaking out I’ll use Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Mask.
My signature makeup look…
…is quite natural – I just want something super-fast and easy. I love Chantecaille’s Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer for everyday wear. I use a tinted brow gel for my brows and always curl my lashes with Surratt Beauty’s Relevée Lash Curler – it’s the best one I’ve tried. I’m a sucker for bronzer and love to use it no matter what season it is; I use it as an eyeshadow, too. Then I do lots of coats of mascara – my favorite is Lancôme’s Monsieur Big – and finish with a touch of RMS Beauty Living Luminizer.
Ginger shots are the best pick-me-up…
…I love the ones from Press London, but if I’m on top of my s**t, I’ll make my own. It’s super-easy – just peel the ginger, put it into a juicer, then squeeze a lemon in and mix; I have so many in my fridge. I’ve also been taking 20-minute power naps, which are proven to make your day more productive, and it helps me to refocus.
IN THE EVENING
I listen to other women’s stories…
…my latest podcast, On The Line, is a call-in show where women can ask questions or discuss everything – sex, breakups, work/life balance… It’s so important to talk and support each other. I struggled with body confidence as a teen and felt like I didn’t belong anywhere, but I found that being more social really helped boost my low self-esteem. Make friends with people who have similar interests to you, even if it’s just a book club; have a support system and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
I swear by taking bubble baths…
…I have a lot of trouble sleeping and they really help me to wind down and relax my mind and body. I use Himalayan bath salts or one of the Aromatherapy Associates Bath Oils, and soak for 20-30 minutes. I also like to spray Mio Liquid Yoga Spray before I get in the tub and just focus on my breathing. I’ve been learning about breathing from yoga and it’s really helped with my anxiety. After my warm bath, I always slather my skin in a luxurious body oil.
My evening skincare routine is my pamper time…
…I remove my makeup with the extremely soothing Caudalie Make-Up Removing Cleansing Oil and then cocoon my face in Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm – it gets right into your pores and feels so warm and silky as it heats up on the skin. Then I use Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence Moisturising Toner, La Mer The Eye Concentrate, a hydrating serum and an organic face oil instead of moisturizer. My last and favorite indulgence is By Terry’s Baume de Rose lip balm.
I take time to give myself some TLC…
…whether it’s reading a book, wearing a sheet mask or ten minutes of meditation. We’re constantly on the go and worrying about things, and that can really take a toll on our mental health.
