Make braids your summer-proof style accent

When Hailey Bieber, Margot Robbie, Nidhi Sunil and Gigi Hadid all sported a braided hairstyle in different iterations at the Met Ball and on the Cannes red carpet, it quickly became the style to sport this summer. And it makes sense: super-easy to create, low maintenance and ideal for tackling holiday humidity. For a Y2K take on the style, opt for the Hailey Bieber-inspired front-piece braids either side of your center parting and spray a texture spray into the rest of your hair to get a beachy texture. Or, for a more polished finish, look to Gigi Hadid and Nidhu Sunil, whose go-to braided buns and plaited ponies give an elevated, but low-fi accent to their red-carpet looks.

Try the most requested color right now

Bronde – which bridges the gap between blonde and brunette – has become summer’s hair color of choice and is still the most requested in salons. And for good reason: warm, honeyed tones of caramel make for the perfect stop gap for brunettes looking to capture those golden sun-kissed hues of summer. While being both flattering and uplifting, caramel blends beautifully to liven up lackluster brown – and adds dimension. Best of all, it looks good on every skin tone, hair type and cut – and is super-low maintenance.

TikTok’s viral liquid-hair trend

Glossy syrup, glass hair, liquid gloss – the hair finish beloved by A-listers both on and off the red carpet has become a TikTok sensation, with 27 million views – and counting – for the #glass hair hashtag. But how to mimic that straight-from-the-salon liquid shine? According to the experts, it all starts with the foundations – in fact, it’s impossible to achieve that ‘glass hair’ look if you start with a shampoo that leaves behind residue. Opting for a shampoo that safeguards colored hair (even if you don’t have colored hair) ensures strands are super-clean and your natural color isn’t dulled. For extra gloss, we recommend using a glossing spray as a final step to enhance the effect, too.

Perfect the lo-fi ‘on vacation’ texture

Summer is the perfect time to give your hair a break from heat tools. And for some hair types (think fine, straight or slightly wavy), it’s the best time to let hair air-dry. For textured, coiled or kinky hair, though, creating that undone look requires a little more effort without heat. If your hair falls into the last category here, try twisting small sections of hair to encourage curl, before pinning them into a knot or wrapping round flexi rods for a smoother finish. What you do at night is also important: braiding, twisting or using the flexi rods overnight is a great way to achieve a full head of even, natural curls come morning.
