In recent years, it would appear that fashion and technology have become practically symbiotic. Fashion weeks across the world have adopted digital hybrid models, shopping experiences have increased their online presence and wearable tech has become a modern mainstay in our lives.

Most recently, London-based footwear label Porte & Paire has launched a truly innovative new project in partnership with New York-based product cloud platform EON, entitled Digital ID. Inspired by consumers’ growing desire for transparency when it comes to their sartorial investments, a near-field communication (NFC) chip placed in a selection of the label’s classic yet contemporary designs will now hold and reveal each shoe’s unique data – from provenance, design and product composition to expert styling tips and after-care advice.

The ultimate idea is that, by providing more information on how products have been designed and created, fashion lovers worldwide will be empowered to make more informed choices while shopping – ensuring that the pieces they buy will hold a cherished place in their closet for seasons to come. With circular fashion firmly on the industry’s agenda, Digital ID technology will also allow for instant authentication and traceability, should you choose to expand the life cycle of your shoes by passing them on to a new owner.
