Tailoring has always exuded a considered confidence that naturally befits a nine-to-five look, while also serving as an elevated option for after-dark outings when paired with the right shoes and accessories. In recent seasons, designers have favored suiting and separates with a capacious fit, which adds a relaxed element to these inherently polished pieces. The key to wearing this look is to team a boxy, oversized blazer – such as Carven’s double-breasted style – with matching wide-leg pants or jeans. We love Slvrlake’s ‘Tess’ pair from our NET SUSTAIN edit, made using lower-impact materials and therefore supporting responsible craftsmanship. Embrace a preppy look by styling with Veronica Beard’s pinstriped ‘Maia’ shirt – the layered collar and exaggerated cuffs make it feel fresh – and Saint Laurent’s loafers in glossy black leather.

Oversized tailoring always exudes confidence when paired with the right shoes and accessories – whether it’s for the office, after hours, or just a leisurely lunch with friends

When dressing for off-duty dinners and weekend lunches, tailored separates in neutral shades provide an easy way to achieve minimal elegance. Isabel Marant’s ‘Klero’ blazer, for example, is a foundational piece that’s perfect for every capsule closet and works beautifully with shirts and slogan tees alike. Elsewhere, Proenza Schouler’s ‘Jules’ pants have a flowing wide-leg shape that’s both flattering and chic. For finishing touches, choose a sculptural heel, such as Dries Van Noten’s slingback pumps, and oversized sunglasses.

Add a pop of color to neutral tailoring with an eye-catching bag – whatever the size – or go top to toe

Sometimes, a pop of color is all you need to make a transitional outfit feel both trending and timeless. Elevate the classic charcoal tone of Loulou de Saison’s relaxed double-breasted suit with La Ligne’s cornflower-blue sweater, or swap your trusty brown or black tote for one in a brighter hue. As for shoes, wear them with ankle boots now, swapping for Toteme’s ‘The Asymmetric Ballerina’ point-toe flats from our NET SUSTAIN edit come spring.
