The Seam has a dedicated team that finds, vets and liaises with a community of makers to ensure that every project is in trusted hands. Makers are quality-checked in person, and The Seam hosts frequent maker meet-ups to share ideas and improve training. “We often solve cases of heart-breaking stains with creative embroidery, such as a blouse with non-removable pen marks on the cuffs that one of our makers was able to cover with beautiful embroidery that looks like it has always been there,” says Sargent. “We also had a customer bring us a stunning ’70s-style evening gown passed down to her from her late great-aunt. She was committed to rewearing the piece, but the style and fit weren’t quite right, so through some alterations and a new shorter length, the piece became one of her go-to party dresses. She also plans to have a matching bag made from the additional fabric we took off the hem.”

2. You will be prompted to enter some information about yourself and the item in need of repair or alteration.

3. The Seam will match you with an expert maker within 24 hours.

4. For alterations (a London-only service), your maker will schedule a fitting with you.

5. For repairs, you will be able to generate a postage label and send your item to the maker.

6. Your maker will keep you updated on the progress of your project, set the price for the work, and return your item within seven working days.
