Beauty

I wake up at 5am

That’s when my husband wakes, which means I’ve had to become an early-morning person – and it didn’t come naturally to me. But now I really love having that time before the kids wake up. I meditate for 20 minutes (I’ve been doing transcendental meditation for 10 years), and then do a 30-minute weights power workout in my bedroom with the Crush It app. Weightlifting is something I’ve really got into recently, but I mix it up with yoga and Pilates.

I do a dry body brush

I’ve been doing this for as long as I can remember – maybe since I was 18. I love the way it makes me feel so energized. I use the Kora Organics Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser in the shower; it’s really uplifting and wakes me up. When I’m out of the shower, I spritz on the Minty Mineral Hydration Mist – again, another way to wake me up. After that, I use the Noni Bright Vitamin C Serum, which has been a life-saver for me – after having three kids, my pigmentation had got really bad, but when I use it religiously, it completely brightens my skin. Next is my newest product, the first (organic) certified plant-based retinol alternative, and I use it morning and evening, as it doesn’t make your face peel like retinol does. I use either the Active Algae or the Turmeric Glow Moisturizer, and I always finish with the Noni Glow Face Oil for that boost of glow. If I’m feeling a bit puffy, I get my gua sha, as that really helps – that’s if I can find it, as my kids love playing with it.

I have an LED device…

…and I wish I had more time to use it. I was using my NuFace microcurrent quite a bit, but I need to get back into the habit. And if I get a facial, I always ask for LED and microcurrent.

I love my blush!

I also have an RMS Beauty blush that I made with the founder, Rosemary (she’s a friend of mine), which I adore. I also use her concealer – sometimes, I’ll put a drop of the Noni Glow Face Oil in a pot, mix it with a brush and then blend it all over my skin for a natural-makeup look. I also love Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Brightening Flawless Finish Powder.

On a bad-face day…

…I’ll definitely use my Turmeric Brightening and Exfoliating Mask; it energetically resets me with its mix of scrub and the aromatherapy oils. Also, if I pop on a red lip, that can energize me – and RMS Beauty does a really good red.

As soon as I get off a long-haul flight…

…I go outside and put my feet in the grass to ground myself. I get straight into the new time zone and try to get some exercise – you have to push yourself, even if you’re feeling tired.

Now I’m hitting 40, I’m more into cardio

I never thought I would be someone who does weights or runs, as I’ve always been such a yoga and Pilates girl. I do like an app, because I don’t have time to go to a class – Tracy Anderson, Megan Roup and The Pilates Class are all ones I use. If I’m tired and don’t feel like exercising, my little indulgence is to go on the treadmill and watch The Crown.

I’m obsessed with celery juice

It’s literally my saving grace. When I was pregnant with my second child, I got sick and, for two years, I was eating a plant-based diet only. Doing that, combined with drinking celery juice, completely healed my gut. Now, I’m eating more meat, but my body predominantly does better with a mainly vegetarian diet. I try to be 80% strict, 20% indulgent. Caffeine is not great for me – but, with three kids and not enough sleep, sometimes you need it.

I add crystals to my bath

I love rose quartz, amethyst, clear quartz and citrine. When I have time – and the kids are in bed – I add my crystals and some rose essential oil to the bath, light my candles, put on my turmeric face mask and relax.

I’m a tree-hugger

Being in nature ‘grounds’ me, and even just putting my bare feet in the grass helps. I love looking up through the trees – like those Ansel Adams tree photographs. Yoga also keeps me grounded, especially Kundalini yoga; I have it deep in my bones, as it’s consistently been really helpful for me since I was 17. I also love to light palo santo – I find it very clearing and grounding.

If I can’t sleep…

…I take Put Me To Sleep Naturally by Dr. Amen’s BrainMD. Alternatively, I use one of the sleep meditations on the Insight Timer app. If you have ruminating thoughts, it really helps – ‘Deep sleep meditation’ and ‘Get back to sleep meditation’ are two I use – I now have all the app’s sleep meditations on my phone.
